Speaking at the opening ceremony, Datin K. The new engine assembly facility developed through the partnership and initiatives of Sime Darby Motors and the BMW Group, will not only boost the local capabilities and regional competitiveness of the country but will also create employment opportunities and raise technical competency skills for Malaysians.”

She added that the new engine assembly facility, alongside the assembly plant and the Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Johor by premium automaker BMW Group would promote the exchange of technological know-how, thereby developing a more innovative and talented workforce in line with the transformation aspirations of the country.

Ms. Ilka Horstmeier, Senior Vice President, Production Engines and Electrified Powertrains, BMW Group said, “Today is a very special day: together with SDAE we have managed to establish a new engine assembly for BMW engines in Malaysia. Our strong cooperation with our reliable partner comes to fruition with the assembly of 3- and 4-cylinder petrol engines, alongside 4-cylinder diesel engines, as well as the 3- and 4-cylinder combustion engines for the Plug-In Hybrid electric vehicle.”

Echoing her sentiments, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad said, “Sime Darby Motors’ vision is to be the preferred contract assembly partner for the most dynamic automakers in ASEAN. We aim to produce more than 50,000 vehicles as well as the engine parts and components for the vehicles by the year 2020. The new SDAE Engine Assembly Facility opened today takes us one giant leap forward in making this goal a reality.”

Established on a land site of over 6 acres with a built-up area space of 8,500 square metres and with a total investment value of over RM 132 million by SDAE, the new engine assembly facility will support BMW Group Malaysia’s growing demand for locally assembled vehicles with the newest capabilities in engine assembly technology as well as support the premium automaker’s export initiatives to other markets in the region.

Equipped with the newest innovation for engine assembly including EST tightening equipment, Dosing and Bonding Technology (DoboTech) equipment, engine engraving, engine oil filling and test machines for hydraulic valve play compensation, leak tests as well as hot and cold testing, the new facility employs an additional 60-person workforce demonstrating a commitment to increasing employment opportunities and career growth prospects within the local job market in the Kulim Hi-Tech area.

Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia (above) said, “Malaysia has long played the role of a strategic partner to the BMW Group in South East Asia and this significance is reflected in our business performance here which mirrors our achievements worldwide. In the first quarter of 2018, the BMW Group is already on target for an eighth consecutive year of record sales with a delivery of 604,629 vehicles worldwide, a 3% growth as compared to the same period in 2017.”

(L-R) Mr. Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors; Mr. Jeffri Salim Davidson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Berhad; Dato’ Madani Sahari, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Automotive Institute; Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad; Ms. Hildegard Wortmann, Senior Vice President of Region Asia Pacific, BMW Group; Datin K. Talagavathi, Deputy Secretary General responsible for Industry, Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia; Ms. Ilka Horstmeier, Senior Vice President of Production Engines and Electrified Powertrains, BMW Group; and Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, BMW Group Malaysia

Hoelzl added, “The positive performance worldwide echoes in Malaysia, where BMW Group Malaysia has already successfully achieved a 15% increase in the deliveries of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles in the country, delivering 3,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2018.”

BMW Group Malaysia has introduced the All-New BMW X3, which will be locally-assembled (CKD) for the first time in the country, allowing its price to be RM320,000. This demonstrates BMW Group Malaysia’s commitment to growing its investments here in Malaysia, a move that further emphasises Malaysia as the hub for the BMW Group in South East Asia.

Mr. Harald Hoelzl, (above) Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “Today, we celebrate a new generation of the BMW X3, which in the history of the premium automotive industry, is the creator of the mid-sized premium SAV segment in 2003. This is a perfect example on the BMW belief that the best way to predict the future is to create it. With over two generations of the BMW X3, we have delivered more than 1.5 million vehicles to lead the segment all over the world. Today, the All-New BMW X3 is set to continue to write the next chapter in BMW’s success story in the premium segment.”

Hoelzl added that with over 1,000 units already delivered in 2018, the BMW X Family is enjoying a significant 39% growth in Malaysia, compared to the same period last year. Driving this performance is The Boss – the BMW X5, and the First-Ever BMW X2. Now, with the All-New BMW X3, BMW Group Malaysia looks forward to pushing the BMW X Family further this year.

“For the very first time, the independent and passionate BMW X3 is made available from launch as a locally assembled vehicle to offer our customers here a wider choice and availability of products as well as a differentiation, option and a mix from our offering of fully imported models in the premium sports activity vehicle segment,” Hoelzl said.

Overall, BMW Group Malaysia delivered 3,000 BMW, MINI and Motorrad vehicles in the first quarter of 2018, charting an impressive 15% growth compared to the same period last year with 2,600 vehicles delivered. In the details, the BMW brand saw an 18% growth in deliveries with over 2,500 new vehicles in the first quarter of 2018 (Q12017: 2,100 vehicles).

MINI, meanwhile, grew by 6% – delivering over 220 vehicles compared to the same period in 2017 where 200 vehicles were delivered. While BMW Motorrad grew by 2% in the first quarter of 2018 with close to 260 motorcycles delivered to customers.

The new locally-assembled BMW X3 is priced at RM320,000 (OTR w/o insurance)

More on the new BMW X3…

The All-New BMW X3 now sports an even more striking and dynamic design language, boasting class leading driving systems and dynamics – all of which attribute to All-New BMW X3’s independent spirit. “It is only fair that the All-New BMW X3 is called The Independent in the BMW X Family,” Hoelzl said.

The All-New BMW X3 is introduced in the variant of the BMW X3 xDrive30i Luxury. The dynamic handling qualities of the All-New BMW X3 are rooted in its ideal 50:50 weight distribution, its meticulously honed chassis and the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which made its debut in 2003 when the first generation of the BMW X3 was launched.

Sharper Design with Distinctive Looks.

The All-New BMW X3 elevates the already bold dynamic design language of its predecessor to new, even more eye-catching territory. The third generation of the pioneering premium mid-sized Sports Activity Vehicle treads a familiar BMW X family path in combining rugged off-road looks with sporting presence. The exterior dimensions of the All-New BMW X3 may be largely unchanged, but its five-centimetre-longer wheelbase, long bonnet and short front overhang with even more finely balanced proportions – which emphasise the perfect 50:50 distribution of weight between the front and rear axle – give it the edge over its predecessor.

At the front end, the “three-dimensional” kidney grille treatment and foglamps featuring a hexagonal design for the very first time on a BMW X model, underline the confident character of the All-New BMW X3. The SAV features LED headlights with low-beam and high-beam, side lights and cornering lights. The All-New BMW X3 also features high-beam assistant which switches head lights to high beam automatically when needed. The underbody protection in Frozen Grey and high-gloss Chrome. The All-New BMW X3 sits on 19” light alloy wheels Double Spoke bicolour Ferric Grey.

Moving to the rear, the light clusters (whose three-dimensional look in full-LED guise give them significant visual impact), markedly downward-sloping roof spoiler and twin exhaust tailpipes bring matters to a suitably muscular conclusion. The cargo space offers versatility as it can be expanded from 550 litres to 1,600 litres when the seats are folded down. The Comfort Access with contactless boot operation allows for added user-convenience with keyless access to the vehicle, including contactless access to the tailgate.

Supreme Driving Pleasure, Exceptional Efficiency.

The cutting-edge BMW TwinPower Turbo 2.0 in-line four-cylinder petrol engine sits at the heart of the All-New BMW X3, which comprises of TwinScroll turbocharging, High Precision Injection, Double-VANOS variable camshaft control and Valvetronic fully variable valve timing. With an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, the All-New BMW X3 is capable of sprinting from 0-100km in 6.3 seconds at a top speed of 240 km/h. The All-New BMW X3 is capable of generating a maximum output of 252hp and 350Nm of torque, offering supreme driving pleasure with exceptional efficiency. For the full spec sheet, click here: BMW X3 Spec Sheet_Peninsular Malaysia

With the intelligent lightweight construction, the All-New BMW X3 is up to 55kg lighter than its predecessor, which translates to superior dynamic performance and outstanding efficiency. With that in mind, the All-New BMW X3 also has the lowest aerodynamics with a Cd factor of 0.29. The lower the factor, the less drag the body will induce. As a result, a balance between a dynamic yet efficient design is achieved.

Furthermore, the standard Driving Experience Control switch allows the driver choose between various configurations – i.e. ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, all of which are designed to make the vehicle more dynamic, more comfortable or more efficient to drive.

Perfect Off-Road Prowess.

The dynamic handling qualities of the All-New BMW X3 are rooted in its ideal 50:50 weight distribution, its meticulously honed chassis and the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Not only has the system been offering superior grip on slippery surfaces ever since, it has had a beneficial effect on driving dynamics, too. It is interlinked with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) meaning that the power split between all four wheels can be constantly varied to always produce the handling characteristics for which BMW is renowned, even when the driver is pressing on. Complementing the off-road capabilities of the All-New BMW X3 is Hill Descent Control which helps maintain the SAV at a steady pace when driving down a steep incline.

Comfort-Oriented Interior with a Luxurious Ambience.

The interior of the All-New BMW X3 follows BMW tradition with its driver-focused and ergonomically optimised cockpit layout and carries over many aspects of the car’s exterior design. For instance, hexagonal forms and precise, bevelled edges play a central role in the interior. The interior displays exceptional material quality, fit and finishing, and impresses functionality-wise. One example here is the well-thought-out storage concept, which offers more storage space than ever before and ensures it is easier to access as well as galvanised plating on the air conditioning, audio and steering controls which is luxury to the sight and touch within the premium vehicle.

Evidence of the attention to detail lavished by the designers on the interior of the All-New BMW X3 includes the exclusive BMW X embossing which is highly visible on the B-pillar, enter console and rear door trim. Partially hidden BMW X embossing can also be spotted between the front door and dashboard end.

Upon entering the All-New BMW X3, the driver will be welcomed into the Leather Vernasca with contrast stitching sports seat, with padded side bolsters and eye-catching shoulder section. The dashboard is also set low to offer the distinctive “Command Position”, leaving the driver with a feeling of being in control with a good all-round vision.

With the Luxury Line, the All-New BMW X3 offers leather upholstery, a Sensatec-covered instrument panel with contrast stitching and Dark Oak fine wood interior trim strips with accent strip in Pearl Chrome. The All-New BMW X3 also comes with 6 ambient light colours tones (orange, lilac, mint, bronze, blue and white) with selectable contour and mood lighting.

The All-New BMW X3 also features a rear camera, with Park Distance Control which provides an acoustic and visual (distance only) warning of the obstacle behind the vehicle. To assist the driver further, the Parking Assistant aids with automatic parking into parallel and lateral parking spaces.

Technology and Communication.

In the All-New BMW X3, the new Multifunctional instrument display with Black Panel technology replaces the traditional gauge cluster which has been a common fixture in the page. Besides displaying a breadth of information such as navigation, the three different driving modes – ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT – and their specific displays have their own colour scheme and graphic style.

The 10.25-inch Central Information Display is located above the instrument panel of the All-New BMW X3 with touch control functionality, providing a quick overview of the most pertinent information and offers users intuitive access. With the BMW ConnectedDrive, owners will have seamless connectivity to their car and the world outside. To further enhance driver experience, the All-New BMW X3 also comes with the Welcome Light Carpet, creating a sophisticated atmosphere when approaching the vehicle.

In terms of external colour offering, the All-New BMW X3 offers new and bold colours of Terra Brown, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Alpine White. On the interior, the Leather Vernasca Black is best paired with Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Terra Brown; whereas the Leather Vernasca Mokka is best paired with Alpine White and Black Sapphire. The All-New BMW X3 will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from Wednesday, 25th April 2018*, with deliveries commencing in July 2018*.

Priced at RM320,800 (OTR without insurance) BMW Group Malaysia has just introduced the first-ever BMW X2, the newest member to the premium automaker’s portfolio of Sports Activity Coupes.

Created to transform the Compact Premium segment, the all new model from BMW features unmistakable sporty, dynamic and urban design cues which leaves a confident impression both in its class and within the BMW X model family. Here’s a closer 360-degree walk-around video of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi2KtXjg6io

Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia (below) said, “The BMW X models have long made its mark in Malaysia. Last year alone, we delivered over 4,200 BMW X Series vehicles, equating to 39.6% of BMW’s deliveries of 10,618 vehicles. Today, we’re proud to expand our BMW X portfolio here in Malaysia with the first-ever BMW X2.”

Hoelzl added that the new compact premium sports activity coupe promises unadulterated driving pleasure with the ideal balance between sporty driving dynamics and exceptional efficiency. It also offers the best-in-class cabin space.

BMW Malaysia is introducing the X2 in the BMW X2 sDrive20i M Sport variant. The bold, uncompromising nature of the first-ever BMW X2 is evident at first sight and stands out from the crowd in any setting.

The new compact premium sports activity coupe makes a wholly distinctive impression by virtue of the car’s exterior design, while essentially combining the fast-moving body language and low-slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of a BMW X model.

“On the road, it is evident that the BMW X2 has the poise of an athlete in peak condition”BMW.

Above all, it is the BMW X2’s proportions which create its expressive, dynamic demeanour. Featuring short overhangs, it also has a stretched, coupe-style roofline and slim window graphic. Many of the design details emphasise the BMW X2’s standalone nature while simultaneously and unequivocally signalling its membership of the BMW X family.

The time-honoured BMW kidney grille is just one example, turning the familiar trapezoidal shape on its head instead of widening from top to bottom. This is the first time this design detail has seen the light of day on a modern BMW.

The Sports Activity Coupe cuts a dashing figure on every journey, thanks to its peerless BMW TwinPower Turbo engine, a sophisticated powertrain.

Teaming up with the refined chassis to enable remarkable handling qualities, exceptional agility and feedback, all of which provides BMW X2’s unprecedented driving pleasure in this segment.

The kidney grille has always been an identifying feature of a BMW. On the BMW X2, its outline is wider at its base than at its top. The BMW X2 is the first modern BMW to feature this design cue, and it gives the first-ever BMW X2 a broader, even more distinct and sporty appearance.

Below the grille, the hexagonal surface treatment in the bumper further reinforces this impression. The kidney grille provides a visual expression of the BMW X2’s classy appeal. The front to the grille bars in High-Gloss Black contrast with the grille’s chrome surround.

The design of the BMW X2’s headlights reinforce its striking, sporty looks. With the inner headlights being slightly narrower than the outer ones, the BMW X2 assumes a tangible air of concentration and dynamism. Besides LED fog lights, the first-ever BMW X2 comes with LED headlights with extended contents which come with daytime driving lights in 3D icon design.

The BMW X2 wears the BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow line, with the BMW emblem on the C-Pillars, paying homage to BMW’s tradition of creating premium sports coupes. The BMW M Aerodynamics package comes with this Sports Activity Coupe with wheel arch trim and claddings on doors in body colour. Besides the BMW M rear spoiler, the BMW X2 is designed with the BMW M Sport Suspension, lowering it by -10mm to ensure a comfortable drive.

One of the ways the BMW X2 expresses the inherent power of its BMW TwinPower Turbo engine is through the design of the tailpipes. At 90mm in diameter, the all-new BMW X2 comes with two-sided exhaust tailpipe in high-gloss chrome.

Moving to the top, the roofline of the BMW X2 has an almost coupe-like lightness, which gives the whole car the impression of surging forward like an athlete. Further accentuating the sporty look on the BMW X2 is the roof rails in Aluminium Satinated.

On the road, the BMW X2 has a poised stance thanks to the 19” M light alloy wheels, double-spoke style 715M with run-flat properties. The side skirts of the BMW X2 are among its signature features and contribute in no small part to its rugged and assured good looks.

The horizontal design lines of the BMW X2’s rear end tightens the visual distance between the car and the road, emphasising the car’s width and therefore its sporty character. These lines continue into the high-set rear lights.

Daring Interior Lighting Offering…

Inside, the new BMW X2 offers LED ambient lighting with bold choices of Orange, Lilac, Mint, Bronze, Blue and White colour settings to match the daring exterior expression of the vehicle as well as the mood of the driver.

Driving Dynamics…

The BMW X2 drivers think differently. They break with conventions and they lead the way. As such, the BMW X2 makes for their perfect car. This Sports Activity Coupe is powered by the multiple award winning 2-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine which combines twin-scroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double VANOS and High Precision Injection, all of which generates a top speed of 227km/h.

With an overall system output of 192hp and 280Nm of torque, the first-ever BMW X2 sprints from 0-100km/h in just 7.7 seconds. This Sports Activity Coupe also comes with a 7-speed Steptronic Sport double-clutch transmission.

The car’s driving responses can be adapted with a simple push of the Driving Experience Control switch, which allows drivers to choose between COMFORT mode, efficiency-enhancing ECO PRO mode, and SPORT mode. It is also equipped with the Performance Control which allows engine control and brake intervention during cornering.

Contemporary Ambiance with Premium Flair…

The interior of the BMW X2 blends signature BMW elements, such as a pronounced driver focus and dynamic lines, with the understated ruggedness of a BMW X model. From multi-function buttons on the steering wheel to the exterior and interior mirrors with automatic anti-dazzle function, including fold-in function, the high quality of the BMW X2 and its impressive level of equipment are both instantly apparent.

The first-ever BMW X2 offers a generous helping of everyday practicality. On top of the Comfort Access System with contactless opening of the tailgate, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 470 litres, and up to 1,355 litres with the 40/20/40 split folding down rear seat backrests.

Passengers are also prioritised in the designing of the BMW X2 as the automatic air-conditioning comes in two-zone while passengers behind get to enjoy rear air-conditioning. Both front passenger and driver are treated to electric seat adjustment, with the addition of memory function for the driver.

As far as BMW is concerned, there is one thing that always comes first in a connected vehicle: the task of driving. For this reason, all the BMW Connected elements in the new BMW X2 have once again been designed to assist, inform and entertain the driver at the appropriate time using just the right services, including Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Concierge Services, BMW Online and BMW Remote Services.

Still the only premium automaker with such an offering in the industry, the integration of BMW Connected services and comfort-enhancing functions enable BMW X2 drivers to organise their daily routines as efficiently as possible.

The BMW Head-Up Display in full colour projects driver-relevant information to offer a first-class customer experience in this vehicle segment. Besides connecting via USB devices, the BMW X2 also comes with the Extended Smartphone Connectivity which enables owners to connect Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone to the BMW X2 and the hands-free kit. This Sports Activity Coupe offers Navigation Plus with 8.8” touch display which also enables split-view. The Radio Media comes with 4 speakers and 2 woofers base speakers.

The BMW X2 also offers drivers a wide selection of Driver Assistance systems. Besides cruise control with brake function, the Park Assistant helps parallel parking manoeuvres. The Park Distance Control and the rear-view camera also make precise and comfortable manoeuvring that much easier.

In terms of external colour offering, the first-ever BMW X2 offers new and bold colours of Galvanic Gold Metallic, Misano Blue Metallic and Sunset Orange Metallic with Black Interior Colour with contrasting Grey seams.

Specifically with the Black Sapphire metallic model offering, the new compact premium Sports Activity Coupe offers a new interior option of Magma Red interior with contrasting Grey seams. Here’s another walk-around video from the launch today thanks to EVO Aurizn…

Quite a stunner isn’t it? “The BMW Concept 8 Series is BMW’s take on a full-blooded high-end driving machine, a slice of pure automotive fascination. While it is immediately recognised as a BMW, it also displays new design ideas and form-building techniques. The BMW Concept 8 Series showcases a new approach to the use of forms, reflected particularly prominently in the car’s surfacing. A handful of crisp lines mark out clear surfaces, and the car’s volumes are powerfully sculpted. Together, these elements equate to an outstanding model brimming with character” – BMW.

Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia (above, right) said, “It is an absolute pleasure for us to be able to share our new brand presence and expression for our luxury cars here at the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion. The instalment plan is available for all aftersales transactions including Vehicle Service, Extension of Warranty and Service Packages, Repair, Body and Paint, Parts and Accessory, and Lifestyle items.

Commenting on the value-added service, Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “We at BMW Group Malaysia are always in an ongoing pursuit of ways to enhance the sheer pleasure of a BMW ownership experience by providing quality initiatives. With this new offer, our goal is to affirm our initial sentiments for owners to enjoy their cars and peace of mind ownership experience even after the original service period.”

Stefan Sloboda, Head of Aftersales, BMW Malaysia expressed that “The plan with Maybank will allow more BMW customers to enjoy the freedom of further enjoying their premium ownership experience with their BMW vehicles.”

The BMW Oil Inclusive Programme allows BMW owners to extend the service for their vehicles within a set number of years or mileage period at a competitive price, with a choice of 5 Years / 60,000km or 5 Years / 100,000km.
