Hyundai IONIQ 6 Wins 2023 World Car Of The Year Title – Plus 2 Other Awards

Hyundai Motor’s IONIQ 6 has won the 2023 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) title, as well as the World Car Design of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards. The Hyundai Motor Group also collected another award for the Kia EV6 GT which won the World Performance Car title.

The IONIQ 6 – also known as the ‘Electric Streamliner’ – beat the other finalists which included the BMW X1/iX1 and the Kia Niro for the overall title. The IONIQ 6 was one of 21 original vehicles that were in contention for the 2023 WCOTY awards in the 19^th year of the event.

This is the second consecutive triple win for the Hyundai Motor Group as the IONIQ 5 was last year’s winner in the same three categories.

Rocks Flung At Woman’s Car Breaking Her Windshield

A woman experienced a traumatic event on Sunday when inconsiderate people threw rocks at her car, breaking the windshield along Jalan Mempaga, close to Lurah Bilut, Pahang.

Nurcahaya Jaafar, 35, claimed that she was driving a Perodua Viva at the time of the incident, which happened at around 8:50 p.m., along with her husband and two kids aged six and seven months old.

Highway Lanes For Self-Driving Trucks In Japan

In Japan, a motorway connecting Tokyo and Nagoya will soon have a lane designated for self-driving trucks.

The goal is to make it possible for the first driverless trucks to go on a designated route in total safety and apart from other vehicles.

Proton Ends First Quarter Sales With 50.9% Growth Year-on-Year

Proton’s cumulative volume for the first quarter of 2023 went slightly past the 40,000 level to record a year-on-year growth of 50.9%. With 14,573 units for the month of March added to the January and February volumes, the total volume came to 40,287 units.

The March numbers were 3.8% higher than what was reported for February, and 11.9% higher than the same month in 2022. Its estimated market share is 18.7% but slightly better at 21.1% when including the first two months. For the same period last year, Proton’s market share was 16.7%.

Kia Raises Targets For Electrified Vehicle Sales In Quest To Become A Leading Global EV Brand

Kia Corporation to cross the 4-million mark in global sales by 2026, with 25% of the volume made up of electric vehicles (EVs) as its long-term strategy focusses on electrification. By the end of the decade, the Korean carmaker which is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, aims to achieve an annual sales target of 4.3 million units.

It also plans to become a leading EV brand by raising the proportion of electrified car sales to 55% (2.38 million units) in 2030. This is a 7.5% (300,000 units) increase from the 2030 target announced last year, while the global sales target for electrified vehicles has increased by 15.5% (320,000 units).

Progress On The JB-Singapore RTS Link Project

The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project is developing well, with work on various components such as depots, stations, land lines, and marine lines having achieved 32.42 percent completion.

Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, chairman of the State Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure Committee, stated that the Johor government is dedicated to ensuring that the high-impact public transportation project is operational by 2026.
