Lexus Malaysia, a division of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, the authorised importers and distributors of Lexus and Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, announces the availability of a new variant the popular RX300 model. This Special Edition shares the specifications and equipment of the RX300 Luxury variant but has additional accessories.

Priced from RM434,000, inclusive of SST (approximately RM10,000 more than the RX300 Luxury variant), the RX300 Special Edition has Lexus-genuine accessories which enhance its external appearance as well as provide additional functionality for motoring enjoyment. At the front end is an additional underbody panel which provides protection from stones and other objects thrown up from the road while along the sides are body mouldings which not only give enhancement to the looks but also add elegance.

The lower side mouldings are integrated with the new one-piece side steps on either side. These steps run along the bottom of the front and rear doors, providing easier movement in an out of the RX300, especially for small children and elderly people. Custom-designed visors have been installed on the tops of the windows to prevent rainwater from entering the cabin if the glass is wound down slightly. They are shaped to have minimal effect on airflow while allowing the glass to be lowered, if desired, even when there is rain.

Those who frequently use the rear cargo space will appreciate the step guard which is installed near the lower edge of the rear door opening. Covering almost the full width of the opening, it provides protection for the upper part of the rear bumper so it will not be scratched or stained when loading or unloading cargo. The Lexus philosophy is all about hospitality and this is reflected in the Welcome Door Lamp which comes on whenever the doors are opened. The lamp illuminates the area near the door so that puddles of water or potholes can be seen and avoided. Additionally, this feature also adds a touch of class with the projection of the Lexus logo on the ground.

Two other accessories included in the RX300 Special Edition are the Touch ’n Go reader/transmitter and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). The Touch ’n Go device is compatible with Touch ’n Go toll-cards and can be used for passage through the SMART TAG lanes at toll plazas nationwide. It offers a neater solution for electronic payment of toll and can be installed inside the cabin. The DVR is a familiar accessory in many cars nowadays, providing motorists with a way to provide visual evidence in the event of an accident. Unlike the third-party accessories which are usually stuck on the windscreen, the one for the RX300 Special Edition is installed securely behind the rearview mirror.

All the accessories which come with the RX300 Special Edition are Lexus genuine accessories and meet the same high standards of quality and reliability as the rest of the vehicle. All accessory installation is done by professionally trained personnel at UMW Toyota Motor’s own Accessories Centre in Bukit Raja, Selangor. The RX model line currently on sale is the fourth generation of one of the most successful models of the brand. Six variants are available from Lexus Malaysia, with the RX300 Special Edition being the seventh. All RX300 variants are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (8AR-FTS) which produces 235 ps & 350 Nm of torque. A 6-speed Super Electronically Controlled Transaxle (6 ECT) automatic transmission is standard along with all-wheel drive.

As with all new models sold by Lexus Malaysia, there is a comprehensive factory warranty of 5 years/Unlimited mileage (whichever comes first after original registration). Complete aftersales support is available at 7 locations in Malaysia (including one in Kuching, Sarawak) where there are professional technicians who have been extensively trained to look after Lexus vehicles.

Volvo Car Malaysia has recently added the XC90 T5 to its line-up, powered by Volvo’s award-winning Drive-E powertrain, that will complement its current 7-seater premium plug-in hybrid, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription and Inscription Plus. The XC90 T5 is equipped with a 2-litre turbocharged engine that outputs 254 hp (metric) and 350Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The XC90 T5 records a 7.9sec acceleration (0- 100 km/h) and 7.9 litres of fuel consumed for every 100 km (NEDC, combined cycle).

The decision to add a new variant to the XC90 line-up comes after collecting valuable feedback from customers who want more trim level and powertrain choices for Volvo’s best-selling large SUV. “As a human-centric car company, we are always developing products that suit the current needs of our customers,” said Lennart Stegland, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. Stegland adds that adding the XC90 T5 is only one part of the improvements rolled-out for the XC90 range; prospective customers will now get to choose an additional interior colour and three new exterior colours:

New Interior Upholstery Option:

New Exterior Colour Options:

These IntelliSafe systems include, among others, City Safety with Autobrake technology, that assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions. City Safety is the only system in the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.

Another feature that was noted as a favourite amongst owners, Pilot Assist, Volvo’s semi-autonomous driving system which supports the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking will also be included in the XC90 T5. The XC90 T5 is now available for order or viewing at all Volvo authorized dealers nationwide.

The new Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 have been unveiled on occasion of the company’s Capital Market’s Day at the factory in Maranello. These limited-edition special-series cars are the first in a new segment called ‘Icona’ and draw inspiration from the most evocative Ferraris of the 1950s and feature the most advanced sports car technology available today.

Aimed at dedicated clients and collectors, the Monza SP1 and SP2 reference the iconic Ferrari racing barchettas of the past, not least the 1948 166 MM, which originally inspired the name ‘barchetta’, and the 750 Monza and 860 Monza. Designed with the sole aim of winning, these uncompromising models helped build the Ferrari legend in the 1950s by delivering numerous victories in the World Sports Car Championship.

The Ferrari Monza SP1 was designed as an uncompromising single-seat road car that offers a truly unique experience behind the wheel. The second configuration, the Monza SP2, thanks to the elimination of the tonneau cover and the addition of a second protective screen and a second roll-bar, is instead a two-seater enabling the passenger to share the same driving sensations.

The Monza SP1 and SP2 feature a unique design, the best weight-to-power ratio of any barchetta, thanks to the extensive use of carbon-fibre in construction, and distinctive details, such as head-and tail-lights, wheels and interior, which further enhance the cars’ exclusivity. Equipped with the most powerful engine Maranello has ever built, a 810 cv V12, they can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

The architecture of the two cars is based on a monolithic form with an aerodynamic wing profile where the complete absence of a roof and windscreen gave the designers the freedom to create unique proportions that would not have been possible on a traditional spider. The result is the feeling of blistering speed normally only experienced by Formula 1 drivers, which derives from the concept of a cockpit carved from the car’s very volume that wraps around the driver.

The Ferrari Design Centre has sought to create a very pure design, as though born of a single pencil stroke, to convey an ideal of timeless elegance, minimalist form and refined detail. Visually complex solutions, such as those seen on recent racing cars, have been avoided, giving way to a more understated formal design language. Never has a model expressed such a narrative power, highlighting its appeal as a driver’s car where the link between man and automobile becomes symbiotic.

A radical choice was made for the design of the cars’ compact doors which open upwards. Equally important is the all-carbon-fibre one-piece bonnet-wing assembly which is hinged at the front to showcase the imposing V12 engine once open. As with racing models, the bodyshell of both cars is made entirely from lightweight carbon-fibre. The entire interior is trimmed in the same material with a natural finish to enhance the sporty impact of the design. Weight reduction and the ‘barchetta’ configuration guarantee unique vehicle dynamics: perfectly balanced with no roll whatsoever for pure, uncompromising sports-car handling.

Because these are authentic “en plein air” sports cars, one of the greatest challenges in their design was managing the aerodynamic flows inside the cockpit in the absence of a windscreen. The solution was the innovative patented “Virtual Wind Shield” which has been incorporated into the fairing ahead of the instrument panel and the steering wheel. The “Virtual Wind Shield” deviates a part of the air flow to maintain driving comfort.

Especially for Monza SP1 and SP2 owners Ferrari, in collaboration with two leading luxury brands, Loro Piana and Berluti, has created elegant gentlemen-driver-inspired apparel and accessories. The driver’s selection includes racing overalls, jersey, helmet, gloves, scarf and driving shoes. These feature a number of technical solutions to guarantee a comfortable fit and ensure freedom of movement while driving. Here’s the video of the official unveiling held recently…
