Perodua has launched its very own Zero Accident Campaign for its 10,300 employees nationwide as the next phase of the compact carmaker’s Road Safety Campaign launched in October 2017 to help reduce accidents on the road. Under the Perodua Zero Accident Campaign, Perodua is aiming for zero road accidents involving its staff travelling to and from their respective workplaces as well as zero industrial accidents while performing their respective duties by the year 2021.

“This Perodua Zero Accident Campaign is our first nationwide initiative among our staff, involving our manufacturing, sales and after-sales network, to set an example by being good drivers,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh (above, standing, 3rd from left) said. The Perodua Zero Accident Campaign is supported by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) or better known under its Malay acronym, PERKESO. Both organisations are under the Ministry of Human Resources.

“While reduction and even elimination of industry-related accidents has always been the core focus of our Occupational, Health and Safety rules, we are now expanding that focus to include travel outside our premises. We believe the cultivation of good driving habits begins at home and we want to inculcate as much education on safe and responsible driving into our staff so that they would be a good example to all,” Datuk (Dr) Aminar said. The Perodua Zero Accident Campaign will be launched in stages beginning 13 August until the end of the year. Datuk (Dr) Aminar said that Perodua hopes to take learning points from this Perodua Zero Accident Campaign and integrate it into the larger five-year Perodua Road Safety Campaign.

The Perodua Road Safety Campaign aims to reduce road accidents by educating drivers of the need to understand and obey basic road rules and courtesies such as the importance of wearing seatbelts, why child car seats are essential, the significance of using directional indicators and why mobile devices are a driver’s worst enemy. “We use education as the approach because we believe most Malaysian drivers are aware of the rules and courtesies but may not understand the reasons behind them. Education will certainly take longer but once they fully understand the reasons behind the rules, the impact will be stronger,” Datuk (Dr) Aminar said.

The Perodua Zero Accident Campaign was officiated by Datuk (Dr) Aminar and was witnessed by DOSH Kedah Director En Hairozie Asri, Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin and Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd President Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim, who is also Chairman of the Perodua Group Safety Committee.

The Rolls-Royce ‘Silver Ghost’ was the motor car that established Rolls-Royce’s reputation as ‘The Best Car in the World’. In celebration of this defining heritage, Rolls-Royce has created a limited collection of just 35 Bespoke Ghosts, named the ‘Silver Ghost Collection’. Today, the marque releases a film showing this elegant contemporary iteration of Ghost, in motion.

Matthew Butt, Product Manager – Ghost, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “Careful consideration has been paid to the Collection’s defining features. References extolling the past are skilfully hand-crafted into Ghost’s interior and exterior, creating a contemporary homage which speaks as much of today’s great brand as the original Silver Ghost does of its day. This is a truly remarkable Collection.”

In celebration of this defining heritage, Rolls-Royce has created a limited collection of just 35 Bespoke Ghosts, named the ‘Silver Ghost Collection’, previously highlighted to have:

  • Solid sterling-silver Spirit of Ecstasy
  • British Assay office Hallmark AX201, the registration plate of the original ‘Silver Ghost’ marked on the base of SoE
  • Metal Fineness marks and the Assay Office town mark as Sponsor’s Mark to authenticate its heritage.
  • A black-gold-plated SoE base collar, copper inserts
  • Cassiopeia Silver exterior finish,
  • Bespoke hand-painted coachline with 100% silver infused in paint
  • Black painted grille veins

The solid sterling-silver Spirit of Ecstasy, the muse that has guided motor cars created by the marque since 1911, hints at the pioneering heritage of this motor car’s forebear.  A specially created Hallmark of AX201, the registration plate of the original ‘Silver Ghost’, is marked on the base of each muse and a black-gold-plated collar enshrouds the base, itself bearing the unique identity of this collection. An insert is crafted from hammered copper, in tribute to the copper extensively used in the engine bay of the original ‘Silver Ghost’. The copper, shaped, beaten and textured is also engraved with the newly designed AX201 Hallmark.

Kia Motors Corporation revealed for the first time, its next-generation Separated Sound Zone (SSZ) technology that allows each passenger of a vehicle to experience an audio stream tailored to their individual needs, including music, hands-free phone calls, and vehicle alerts, whilst maintaining a headphone-free social space where passengers can converse freely.

SSZ technology creates and controls the acoustic fields of the car, allowing the driver and each passenger to hear isolated sounds. The many speakers installed in the vehicle feature technology that uses scientific principles to reduce or increase audio levels of sound waves. This negates the overlap of sounds being heard in each seat, creating the same effect as current noise cancellation systems, but without the need for headphones.

“Customers in the autonomous navigation era will demand increasingly customizable entertainment options within their vehicles, which includes technological innovations such as the Separated Sound System,” says Kang-duck Ih, Research Fellow at Kia’s NVH Research Lab. “I hope by providing drivers and passengers with tailored, independent audio spaces, they will experience a more comfortable and entertaining transportation environment.”

People’s musical tastes vary, so some passengers choose to use headphones during a journey to isolate their audio stream, but this also creates an unnecessary social barrier when interacting with other passengers. When travelling in a vehicle equipped with next-generation SSZ technology, each passenger can connect their smartphone via Bluetooth and listen to their own music without interference from, or interfering with other passenger’s audio streams. When the SSZ is utilized, hands-free phone calls can also be isolated to individual passengers, ensuring privacy when having important phone conversations on the move.

Furthermore, this ground-breaking technology can eliminate unnecessary sounds for the passenger, but provide them for the driver. Navigation sounds, or various alerts allow the driver to focus on controlling the vehicle, while the SSZ system isolates these sounds, maintaining a quiet area for the other passengers. This has a particularly strong application for drivers with a sleeping child in the vehicle.

SSZ technology has been in development since 2014, and the completed mass production system is expected to be ready for installation in vehicles within one to two years.
