Proton’s 40th Birthday Marks Official Start Of Journey Into New Energy Vehicles

On May 7, 1983, Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn. Bhd., commonly known as Proton, was established with the goal of fostering Malaysia’s economic industrialization by creating a supportive environment for the nation’s budding automotive sector. The corporation is now entering new market areas that will once again fuel the country’s dreams, forty years and nearly five million cars later.

The Proton X90 is the company’s first new Energy Vehicle (NEV) product in addition to adding a third model to its market-leading lineup of SUVs. It promises to offer lower fuel consumption, lower emissions, higher performance, and a smoother driving experience thanks to a power plant that combines an award-winning 1.5-liter TGDi engine with a 48V electric motor synergy system.

The third X-series model in Proton’s sports utility vehicle (SUV) lineup was officially unveiled by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

UMW Toyota Motor Set On Long-Term Growth In Malaysia

Despite a slight 3% month-over-month decline in sales in April 2022, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has its sights set on long-term growth and is confident in its overall performance. The company projects a positive gain of 9% in year-to-date sales reported for April 2023 compared to April 2022.

Even with the shorter operational month in April 2023, it is still on track to meet its mid-year target with a total of 6,681 Toyota and 86 Lexus new vehicle sales.

1.3 Million Overdue Traffic Summonses Settled After Discount Offered

Since the government started offering reduced pricing on summons on April 21, about 1.3 million past-due traffic tickets have been paid.

After 16 days of the discount being offered, the reaction has been positive, according to Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim, director of the Federal Police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID).

Apple CarPlay Will Live On In Ford Vehicles

One of the nicest features for a smart driving experience is Apple Carplay. There are now a lot of businesses using this programme, but as technology develops, it’s very likely that automakers may wish to create their own entertainment systems.

For instance, starting in 2024, General Motors wants to phase out CarPlay in its electric vehicles. According to Ford’s CEO Jim Farley, there have been rumours that starting in 2023, it was going to phase out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility from their new vehicles.

Drama-Filled Start To Round 1 of The GR Vios Sprint Cup

Race Day One (6 May 2023)

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Sprint Cup is not just about speed and skill, but also about teamwork and strategy. Race 1 of the Gazoo Racing Vios Sprint Cup was won by the Laser Motor Racing team of Eddie Lew and Amer Harris at Sepang International Circuit.

The Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) event, the GR Vios Sprint Cup, which is only in its second year, consists of two 1-hour races on Saturday and Sunday. Teams of two drivers are vying for RM60,000 in total prize money each racing weekend.
