And it was X44 Vida Carbon Racing which took championship glory although it finished third, with ABT CUPRA XE securing a maiden X Prix victory. X44, Lewis Hamilton’s outfit, had entered a Final that was missing three of the top four teams in the championship standings, including leaders RXR.

With the previous government having allowed full tax exemption on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for a few years, many companies have been quickly introducing new BEV models in the market this year. A number of them are from China, which has the largest EV market in the world, so we are seeing many new brands and models which have unusual names as well.

ORA is one of those new brands and though the brand is new, the brand owner is not. It is a BEV-dedicated brand of Great Wall Motors (GWM), the leading truck and SUV manufacturer in China. GWM is not new to Malaysia as their Haval models have been on sale over the past 10 years, marketed by a local company. In order to more effectively invest and manage their business here, they have established a subsidiary company which will handle distribution and marketing.

To mark the closing of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the time when Ferrari’s first-ever racing car, the 125 S, exited the factory gates in 1947, the sportscar maker has unveiled the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo. However, this closed-wheel single-seater is not a production model: it is the first Ferrari concept car created specifically for the virtual motor sport world.

This model signifies an important step for Ferrari in the virtual environment, while also redefining  its stylistic language. It represents a futuristic design manifesto for Ferrari’s road and racing cars, a stimulus for both the engineers and drivers (real and virtual) of tomorrow.

Today, Mercedes-Benz has a range of compact models in its range but this was not the case before 1997 when the smallest model was the C-Class W201 (known as 190 E earlier). However, the German carmaker did plan to have a car smaller than the C-Class and had been thinking about it on and off from the early 1980s.

While the world was excited at seeing the completely new ‘baby Benz’ in 1982, a small group of engineers was busy preparing a presentation for a model that was even smaller. It was a ‘city car’ concept which would have front-wheel-drive, two seats, sliding doors and large windows for an optimum all-round view.

Many believe this to be the starting point for the first A-Class and the idea of a mini vehicle had stimulated the designers to think of new approaches. However, that proposal never went very far as it was not easy to meet the high safety standards that must be in every vehicle with the Stuttgart Star. The technology available then made it almost impossible to design a car so small which could provide high levels of impact protection.

Lamborghini is one of the legendary names among sportscars, many of its models having performance that was so superior that they began to be called supercars (although Lamborghini today refers to them as super sportscars). Like many of the great old car companies, Lamborghini was founded by one man with a determination to make the best cars in the world – Ferruccio  Lamborghini.

Most articles about the history of Lamborghini typically start from the time he was already a well known tractor manufacturer in Italy. There is not much about his childhood or the beginnings of his dream which began after World War II when he returned home. Now, a new movie ‘Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend’ shows the missing periods and it is based on a book by his son, Tonino.
