The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Perlis recently seized three vehicles, including a Porsche valued at nearly RM3 million, due to violations of the Customs Duty (Exemption) Order 2017.

These cars had exceeded the 90-day stay limit for vehicles brought from Duty-Free Islands like Langkawi and Labuan into Peninsular Malaysia.

According to Ismail Hashim, JKDM Perlis Director, the vehicles were surrendered voluntarily by the owners after realizing they had breached the 90-day limit set under Item 14 of the exemption order.

Sime Darby Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, has launched the BYD M6, an all-electric 7-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that aims to redefine family travel. The highly anticipated model offers Malaysian families a spacious, comfortable, and eco-friendly transport option in the growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

Spacious and Versatile for Families

The BYD M6 features a 7-seater configuration with ample legroom and headroom across all rows. Its innovative design includes foldable second and third-row seats, transforming the cabin into a flat load area and expanding its 580-litre boot space. This makes the M6 ideal for everything from daily errands to extended family vacations.

Inside, the M6 comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen powered by the BYD Di-Link System, integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Rear passengers benefit from multiple charging ports and, for added entertainment, the M6 offers an optional Karaoke microphone feature, perfect for family road trips.

Additionally, the M6’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability acts as a mobile power station, providing power for activities such as outdoor picnics or mobile businesses, with built-in overload protection for safe use.

Range and Performance

The BYD M6 is powered by an electric motor delivering 160hp for the standard variant and 201hp for the extended variant. Both variants produce 310Nm of torque. Range wise, the BYD M6 offers a range of up to 530km for the Extended variant and 420km for the Standard variant. The M6 supports DC fast charging, reducing downtime during long trips, and also offers home charging for daily use.

Advanced Safety Features

Safety is paramount in the M6, which comes equipped with systems such as a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control System (TCS). The Extended variant offers additional features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Lane Departure Assist (LDA).

A key safety highlight is BYD’s Blade Battery, which is known for its resilience and durability. The Blade Battery has passed rigorous tests, including high-impact collisions, and is designed to prevent fire or explosions under extreme conditions.

Colours, Warranty, Pricing and Launch Offers

The BYD M6 is available in four colours: Crystal White, Ink Stone Blue, Cosmos Black, and Harbour Grey. It comes with a comprehensive warranty package, covering 6 years or 150,000 km for the vehicle, and 8 years or 160,000 km for the battery.

The BYD M6 standard variant is priced at RM109,800 and the Extended variant goes for RM123,800.

To celebrate the launch, Sime Darby Motors is offering exclusive early-bird promotions for the first 300 buyers of the Extended variant, including a complimentary home charger. The first 100 customers at the event-exclusive launch at Dataran Karnival Shah Alam will also receive RM800 in charging credit.

In addition, BYD is running a Year-End Sales Campaign, offering low-interest rates, free road tax, a home charger, and a special rebate for those who register their vehicle before the end of the month.

Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Kia vehicles in Malaysia, has announced the launch of its “Fuel-on-Us” campaign, offering significant fuel savings for new Kia Carnival buyers. This special promotion runs from 1st October to 31st December 2024 and is available for all variants of the Kia Carnival.

New owners of the Kia Carnival can look forward to subsidised fuel as part of the campaign, reducing their average cost per kilometre and providing continuous savings throughout their ownership. The Carnival’s 2.2L Turbo diesel engine, paired with a 72-litre fuel tank, is designed for excellent fuel efficiency, with a consumption rate of 6.5L/100km. A passenger aboard an Electric Train Service (ETS) bound for Ipoh triggered the emergency brake mid-journey, resulting in a significant two-hour delay. The incident, which took place on 12 October 2024, is currently under investigation by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).

The train, which departed from KL Sentral at 9:40 p.m., was scheduled to reach Ipoh by 12:16 a.m. However, the improper use of the emergency brake prolonged the journey, with the train arriving in Ipoh at approximately 2:00 a.m.

KTMB’s Group CEO, Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, confirmed that the incident was recorded on closed-circuit television (CCTV) and a detailed report is being prepared for submission to the Land Public Transport Agency.
