Fourth Year Of Growth For Proton, With 23.3% Increase In Sales

In spite of the challenges of getting parts, especially microprocessors, to complete vehicles, the auto industry in Malaysia actually had a boom year and is expected to have a Total Industry Volume (TIV) of over 700,000 units. Even by November, the TIV had reached 642,306 units, exceeding the sales forecast of 630,000 units made by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

For Proton, it was also another great year – the fourth, in fact – as the brand saw overall sales of 141,432 units (including exports) in 2022. This was with the addition of another 14,750 units in December, the fourth best monthly performance for the year.

Compared to numbers reported in 2021, Proton’s total sales grew by 23.3% despite a tough start to the year. Production was disrupted at both factories due to a combination of flooding which affected parts vendors in Selangor and an acute shortage of microprocessors, which was a global problem. The situation limited output and deliveries for the first 4 months of the year.

Season 3 Of Extreme E To Have New Locations In Scotland And The USA Or Brazil

Extreme E enters its third season in 2023, with the series heading to new locations for the first time and revisiting some of the 2022 favourites. Uniquely, this motorsport event is not just about competition over rough terrain but also aims to drive awareness of climate change issues. It promotes sustainability and competing vehicles run only on electricity.

The extent to which sustainability and minimal impact on the environment are pursued can be seen in the way the logistical aspects. Instead of using aircraft, a ship was specially converted for the purpose to carry the vehicles, logistics equipment and paddock infrastructure to each location.

BMW i Range Gets More Powerful iX xDrive50 Sport

BMW Malaysia has started off the new year with the addition of another variant in the BMW iX range, this being the iX xDrive50 Sport. It joins the iX xDrive40 (available in two versions) which was launched last year.

According to Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, the additional variant exemplifies the brand’s commitment towards shaping the future of Electrified Mobility in Malaysia, not only in expanding the product offerings but also infrastructure to accommodate a thriving electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.

“Our efforts to electrify the automotive landscape in Malaysia has always worked in tandem with the government’s agenda for electrification, and we are set to see further developments in this aspect with our many new industry partners as well,” he said.

Special Offers From Volkswagen For Chinese New Year Of The Rabbit

With the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit about to start later this month, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has festive special offers with savings of up to RM4,000 on selected models. These include the Golf GTI, the Tiguan Allspace family (Life, Elegance and R-Line), and Arteon R-line 4MOTION. The offers are on until the end of February 2023.

Until March 31, 2023, there will also be a Volkswagen Genuine Services aftersales campaign. During the campaign period, owners who spend a minimum of RM800 at any authorised Volkswagen service centre in Malaysia will receive an RM30 official merchandise voucher. The vouchers can put owners in the running to win more merchandise, including the highly sought-after Volkswagen sun chairs.

Morocco To Have Its Own Auto Brand And Car Soon

Morocco, on the northwest corner of the African continent, might not seem to have a major involvement in the automotive industry. Although the country of 37.3 million people began assembling motor vehicles in 1959 with a state-owned company, its auto industry only began to really develop after the company was privatized in 1990. By the early 2000s, the government decided to develop its auto industry into a manufacturing hub for Europe and provided a suitable environment to attract major carmakers.

According to the government, the country now has 10,000 automotive design engineers for German, British, French and North American brands, and this number is expected to reach 50,000 in the coming 3 years.

BMW Group Malaysia Announces Price Increases Across BMW And MINI Ranges

With global inflation and rising manufacturing costs, BMW Group Malaysia, like other car companies, is facing challenges and has announced an upward revision of prices starting this month. The volume-weighted average price revisions are approximately 4.7% and 2.6% for BMW and MINI models, respectively.

To maintain BMW Group Malaysia’s the comprehensive warranty and maintenance programmes, BMW and MINI Service and Repair Inclusive (BSRI/MSRI) package prices are also updated accordingly and included in the overall price increase.
