In a devastating turn of events during the 90th TLDM HUT Celebration Crossing Exercise, tragedy struck as two Malaysian Navy aircraft, a HOM (M503-3) and a Fennec (M502-6), collided mid-air, resulting in a fatal accident. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:45 am, sent shockwaves through the naval community and beyond.

According to reports from West POA, the collision occurred shortly after takeoff from Padang Sitiawan at 9:03 am. The HOM plane crashed onto the steps of the TLDM Lumut Stadium, while the Fennec aircraft plummeted into the swimming pool of the Lumut TLDM Sports Complex.

The swift response of emergency services, including FIRE, 96 HAT, and Protela, was evident as they rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the crew members involved. However, despite their efforts, it was tragically confirmed that there were no survivors from either aircraft.

The loss of lives has deeply affected the Malaysian Navy, particularly the families and colleagues of the victims. The crew members aboard the HOM aircraft (M503-3), comprising seven individuals from various ranks and roles within the Navy, were identified as:

  1. Kdr Muhammad Firdaus bin Ramli TLDM – PM Squadron 503.
  2. Lt Kdr Wan Rezaudeen Kamal bin Wan Zainal Abidin TLDM.
  3. Lt Kdr Mohammad Amirulfaris bin Mohamad Marzukhi TLDM.
  4. PW II TLR (AQM) Muhammad Faisol bin Tamadun.
  5. Three unidentified individuals.

Similarly, the three crew members aboard the Fennec Aircraft (M502-6) were identified as:

  1. Kdr Muhamad Amir bin Mohamad TLDM – PM Squadron 502.
  2. Lt Sivasutan a/l Thanjappan TLDM.
  3. PW II TMK Mohd Shahrizan bin Mohd Termizi.

The loss of these dedicated servicemen has cast a somber shadow over the TLDM community and the nation as a whole. As investigations into the cause of the collision commence, the focus remains on honouring the memories of those who perished and extending support to their grieving families during this difficult time.

Earth Day serves as a poignant reminder of our shared duty to protect the environment and adopt more responsible behaviors in our daily lives. Recognising the carbon dioxide (CO2) impact we generate is crucial, and we have the power to reduce this impact through better choices and practices.

One actionable step is the adoption of renewable energy sources. Despite initial investment costs, renewable energy offers a sustainable alternative for powering homes and businesses. Gentari Sdn Bhd exemplifies this with their commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions, including green and blue hydrogen and solar energy.

The shift to solar power, for instance, not only benefits individuals and corporations financially but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Investing in mutual funds supporting sustainable initiatives further promotes the transition to cleaner energy.

It’s fascinating to see how the Perodua Myvi and Bezza each capture the attention of different regions within Malaysia, reflecting diverse preferences and priorities among consumers.

Perodua Bezza

In terms of overall interest, the Myvi maintains its stronghold as a trending topic on Google, with consistently higher search interest compared to the Bezza. This suggests that despite the Bezza’s rise in popularity, the Myvi continues to resonate strongly with Malaysians across the country.

However, when we delve into regional interest, we observe distinct patterns. The Myvi garners the most interest in states like Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Pahang, and Perlis, particularly in cities and towns on the east coast of Malaysia. On the other hand, the Bezza attracts more attention in Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Melaka, and Pahang, according to Bernama.

Michelin Malaysia has reassured the market that all of the tyres in its product portfolio are EV ready. What that means is that you can quite literally use any of their tyres on an electric vehicle without any issue.

Why is that an issue? Well, electric vehicles are generally heavier than their internal combustion counterparts and as such the tyres face different forms of abuse. The heavier load means the tyres need to be stronger to resist all of the forces a car puts on it, even when stationary.

The other thing is that EV’s have stronger acceleration, and that too subjects a tyre to a higher degree of wear and tear.

With demand for EV’s on the rise, Michelin though it best to affirm the market that their tyres have always been EV-ready and are equipped with their inherent tyre technology to provide the best value for money proposition.

This is not something new for Michelin, in fact, the tyre manufacturer has a proven track record of excellence in meeting the performance requirements of EV’s, including factors like rolling resistance, long-term performance, load capacity, and quite operation as well. As such, Michelin’s tyres provide EV owners the optimal balance of performance, durability and value for money.

Michelin has also enjoyed remarkable performance in the year 2023, with operating income reaching an all-time high of US$3.85 billion. Interestingly, a third of that was reinvested into research and development of its tyres.

In Malaysia, the most popular choice of Michelin tyres are those measuring in at 18-inches and above in the Passenger Cars segment, which has doubled in size over the past five years. This is down to the increasing popularity of SUVs in the Malaysian market.

To support its increasing popularity in the Malaysian market, Michelin expanded its Expert Centre and distribution channels and now boasts 211 locations around Malaysia. It has also reaffirmed its commitment to the Malaysian motorcycling community with the introduction of three new models, which you can read about here. Besides that, Michelin has also introduced its Velo range of bicycle tyres.

At the core of Michelin’s global all-sustainable approach, with People, Profit and Planet, as its guiding principle to be achieved by 2030. Michelin continues to ensure that each innovated product is people-centric, value-creating, and sustainable in 2024.
