A confirmed future classic, the incredible Ferrari SP38 – the latest offering from Ferrari’s One-Off Programme – has been unveiled at Fiorano where, after the ceremonial handover to one of Ferrari’s most dedicated customers, (We weren’t told who, Nick Mason maybe? – Ed.) the car was immediately put through its paces in a series of hot laps.

Designed by the Ferrari Design Centre on the chassis and running gear of the 488 GTB, this unique car reflects the specific vision of a client with a deep passion for racing. The result is a model that can be driven both on road and on track, while at the same time expressing all the beauty and innovation inherent in Ferrari’s road cars.

The all-new bodywork, in a newly conceived three-layer metallic red, marks a radical departure from the language aesthetic of the donor car. The twin-turbo, twin-intercooler set-up of the award-winning 488 GTB inspired the team to reference the mighty F40 as an icon from which to instruct the project’s general direction.

Compared to the 488 chassis, the visual mass of SP38 appears concentrated over the rear wheels as the wedge design sharply stretches towards the front. In plan view, the strongly tapered nose expands towards muscular wheelarches, giving the car potency and agility. Specific inset headlights were designed to be as thin as possible, with the mandatory DRL (daytime running lights) units relocated to add character and functionality to a slim bumper lip reminiscent of the 308 GTB.

On the side, the defining air scoop of the 488 GTB is completely concealed where the sheet metal folds in on itself from the low belt-line on the door and into the rear wheel-arch and three-quarter light.

The effect is dramatic, as it reinforces the importance of the rear volume while, at the same time, maintaining the air flow to the intercoolers at the base of the side window. The dynamic styling continues over the engine cover, which sheds its rear glass and is treated as a flip-up assembly in carbon fibre with shutlines slashing the flanks in a gesture directly reminiscent of the F40’s.

Three transversal slats slash across the engine cover to evacuate engine heat, and the smooth integration of a substantial rear spoiler is a hint at the famous rear wing of the F40. The trailing edge of the spoiler links seamlessly with the wing and with the aerodynamic diffuser at the bottom, to create a suggestive frame surrounding the tail volume.

A full Tailor Made cabin trim puts the finished touches on this truly special Ferrari, which will be on public display for the first time at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Saturday 26th May 2018.

CELEBRATE DRIVING WITH MAZDASPORTS ACADEMY…

Mazda cars have been engineered with a human-centric development philosophy, to instill the joy of driving into every Mazda car driver. Instead of just focusing on the mechanics of vehicle dynamics, Mazda’s developments also centered around humans so that they can deliver “Celebrate Driving” to their customers. This results in a harmonious experience where a driver feels one-ness with their car. Mazda calls it “Jinba-ittai”.

MazdaSports Academy, the latest extension of Bermaz Motor’s MazdaSports Division, is committed to create Mazda-unique driver experience programmes that are in true spirit of Mazda’s brand essence – “Celebrate Driving”. MazdaSports Academy will first introduce the “Advance Driving” ownership experience programme designed specifically for Mazda Owners, to take place on June 9, 2018 (Saturday) at MAEPS, Serdang.

With the “Advance Driving” programme, participants will learn to experience being one with their Mazda and discover ones driving potential. They will find their perfect driving position and enhance their driving ability through a dynamic driving practical course. The ownership programme is limited to twenty spirited Mazda owners. Mazda Owners that wish to join may do so by registering their interest via Mazda Malaysia’s Facebook Page. (https://www.facebook.com/mazdamy/)

Bermaz’s MazdaSports Division, formed in 2016, currently encompasses vehicle development, parts and accessories, and experience programmes. Since its establishment, the MazdaSports Division has developed two models under its vehicle development project; the Mazda3 and Mazda2 with the nameplate MS and M+, respectively, for domestic market consumption. MazdaSports Division anticipates offering a wider range of experience programmes under the MazdaSports Academy in the near future.

A team of Perodua volunteers paid a visit to the Sabah Women and Children Hospital recently, bearing gifts for the child patients as well as equipment and supplies for the hospital, in celebration of the Kaamatan season and to usher in the holy month of Ramadan.

The equipment and supplies contributed by Perodua consisted of two sets of Miller 3 straight laryngoscope blades with handle, worth RM1,800 each, plus 40 bed pillows with PVC covers. “We wish to acknowledge and thank the selfless staff of the Sabah Women and Children Hospital for their services to the people,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer YBhg Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

Together with Lego Malaysia, Perodua brought smiles to some 250 child patients by giving them the gift of play. Each was given a Lego playset along with other goodies by Perodua volunteers. “Perodua takes this opportunity to wish Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan to all who celebrate. May this festival bring us all closer together, and we hope for a harvest just as plentiful next year,” said Datuk (Dr) Aminar.

Over on the peninsular, Perodua recently returned to Shan Children’s Home in Perai, Penang with a team of 10 volunteers from outlets in Penang and Kedah. The carmaker first visited Shan Children’s Home on the eve of Deepavali last year, when it contributed over RM20,000 in the form of goods and cash and announced its commitment to a three-year Corporate Responsibility programme with the home.

This time, Perodua arranged a bread-making class for the home’s 19 children, which they found entertaining and educational. The volunteers also helped with some spring cleaning and handed out soft toys to the children, making their day.

“There are so many ways we can help these children. Material and monetary help is welcome, but both are finite. By engaging the children in educational activities like this, we hope to equip them with skills and knowledge that will benefit them throughout their lifetime,” concluded Datuk (Dr) Aminar.

Also as the Official Partner of FIFA World Cup 2018, Kia lent its support to aspiring young football players and fans to be a step closer to achieving their dreams through the Kia “Champ Into The Arena” futsal tournament and the Kia Official Match Ball Carrier competition in Malaysia which were held over two weekends.

Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings (below) said, “Through these competitions, Kia seeks to build bonds with potential customers and fans of these events and give them a chance to connect with the brand in a more personal and meaningful manner by nurturing young football talent.”

The Malaysia leg of the Official Match Ball Carrier competition was held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) on 22nd April 2018 for children from the age of 10 to 14. The competition saw 14-year-old Adam Riezman taking home the title of “Official Match Ball Carrier” to represent Malaysia as one of 64 children from all over the world who receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the match ball onto the pitch during FIFA World Cup 2018.

A Portugal supporter at the FIFA World Cup and an avid fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, Adam (above) hopes to see his favourite team and player in action at the world event in Russia. “I am thankful to my parents for supporting my ambition and passion for football since I was 9. I can’t wait for this trip to Russia where I will get to meet football fans alike who share the same love for football. Thank you also to Naza Kia Malaysia for giving me this opportunity to represent Malaysia as their Kia Official Match Ball Carrier,” said Adam.

The Kia Official Match Ball Carrier competitions are held in countries worldwide in search of young football fans. The Malaysian leg of the competition saw more than 200 participants from every corner of Malaysia gathering at KLFA Sport Centre Kuala Lumpur to show off their abilities to vie for the coveted spot. Participants were tested on several areas such as agility, skill, attitude and teamwork in a nationwide tournament held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

Team TOT United from Kuala Lumpur emerged as the champions of the Malaysian Kia Champ Into The Arena tournament and will represent Malaysia in the international Kia Champ Into The Arena World Finals in Russia

About 170 teams who took part in the Kia ‘Champ into the Arena’ 2018 tournament went through a vigorous competition, where qualifying rounds were held from 31 March to 21 April 2018 in Peninsular Malaysia – namely Penang (Northern), Terengganu (East Coast), Johor (Southern) and Selangor (Central). Only top four successful teams from each region progressed to the Malaysians Grand Finals which took place at KLFA Sport Centre in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur last Sunday.

Held on 29 April 2018, the ‘Champ Into The Arena’ futsal tournament aims to search for a talented futsal team that will represent Malaysia to compete on a world stage. This is the fourth time Naza Kia Malaysia organised this futsal tournament in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2018. The first was in 2010.

Team TOT United, from Kuala Lumpur emerged champion and earned the right to represent Malaysia in the international Kia Champ Into The Arena World Finals in Russia! The competition will run concurrently with FIFA World Cup 2018 from 15 June to 15 July in Russia.

“My team and I are ecstatic and proud to be representing Malaysia at the international Kia Champ Into the Arena World Finals in Russia! Our team was only formed during the qualifying round in Penang. To prepare for the final few matches, we had to undergo intensive training for a short period of time and I am so glad that the blood, sweat and tears we shed paid off,” said senior TOT United team member, Hazizi bin Mansor.

25-year-old Hazizi is no stranger to the international stage as his previous team also emerged as victors for the Malaysian Kia Champ In The Arena tournament in 2014 and represented Malaysia that year in Brazil.

The winning team, TOT United comprising six players aged 23 to 26, will fly to Russia on an all-expenses paid trip inclusive of accommodation, flight tickets, tour, RM5,000 cash prize and exclusive tickets to watch one of the World Cup Final Match live.

Kia Champ Into The Arena is more than just a futsal tournament as it is a way of Naza Kia Malaysia giving back to the public and customers for their loyalty and support. Apart from the futsal tournament, there were a variety of activities such as an exhibition match and a photo booth station, and the chance to test drive and have a feel of the Kia’s product line-up that were on display.

You can make a difference too. Shell would like to invite all Malaysians to help in the lives of underprivileged children through its Shell Raya Charity Campaign 2018. Now in its fourth year, this initiative has been expanded to take place over 9 days, with an increased donation of up to 2 sen (RM0.02) for every litre of fuel pumped with the participation of Mastercard.

On 19 May, 26 May, 2 June and 9 until 14 June 2018, Shell will donate 1 Sen (RM0.01) for every litre of fuel pumped at any Shell station nationwide. An additional donation of 1 Sen (RM0.01) per litre will be made by Mastercard when motorists pay using their Mastercard.

“Shell’s mission is to make life’s journeys better for all Malaysians, by offering high quality fuels and making a positive impact in the communities where we operate. Children are the future of our nation, and we believe in supporting those in need to help them achieve their full potential. Through the generous support of Malaysians over the past 3 years, we have made a difference in the lives of over 5,200 underprivileged children.” said Shairan Huzani Husain, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.

Perry Ong, Country Manager, Malaysia and Brunei, Mastercard echoed the sentiment, “Mastercard is honoured to collaborate with Shell on a campaign that gives back to the community during one of Malaysia’s key festive seasons. This initiative underscores Mastercard’s commitment to support important causes such as children’s development as part of its global Priceless Causes effort which brings together partners and cardholders to do good. Donations will play a part in supporting the provision of school meals as an essential form of nourishment for children’s wellbeing. Additionally, cardholders can also make charitable contributions via the Mastercard Donations Platform, a digital platform which lets people donate conveniently and safely.”

The Shell Raya Charity Campaign focuses on capacity building for underprivileged children since its inception in 2015. Thanks to the generosity and support of Malaysian motorists, donations have allowed charitable organisations to fund educational programmes, renovate facilities, and upgrade office equipment.

This year, the funds will be donated to seven selected charitable organisations across the country; The Kalsom Movement (Nationwide), Yayasan Chow Kit (Klang Valley), Majlis Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Malaysia (East Coast, North, South), Project T.R.Y (Transforming Rural Youth, Sabah), Pertubuhan Ibu Bapa Kanak-Kanak Keperluan Istimewa Sarawak, Montfort Youth Training Centre (Sabah), and HAUS (Sarawak).

Every contribution matters, and Motorists are invited to take part in this initiative beginning Saturday, 19 May 2018 by simply fuelling up at any Shell station nationwide. Be sure to mark the remaining dates – 26 May, 2 June and 9 until 14 June 2018 – in your calendar.
