BMW Group Malaysia has reinforced its position as the nation’s leading premium electric vehicle (EV) provider, exemplifying its global vision of driving the future of mobility. With over 8,700 vehicles delivered across the BMW and Mini brands by the third quarter of 2024, the automaker has firmly cemented its place in the premium segment. Impressively, more than 1,600 fully electric models contributed to these figures, representing 19% of total deliveries and highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation.

Central to BMW Group Malaysia’s success is its philosophy of “Power of Choice,” which allows customers to select from a diverse range of drivetrain systems, including internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.

In 2024, BMW Group Malaysia introduced several new models to the market, including the BMW iX2, the BMW i5 M60, new variants of the BMW 520i, and the all-new Mini family. These launches underscore the company’s commitment to offering innovative technologies and cutting-edge designs that align with modern consumer preferences. The automaker’s efforts have also been instrumental in expanding the adoption of EVs, supported by a robust charging infrastructure comprising over 2,020 charging facilities nationwide through strategic collaborations with EV charging providers. Additionally, more than 100 BMW i and Mini charging stations are available at dealerships and other key locations, with further expansions planned.

Proton has achieved a milestone victory at the Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers (M100) 2024 Awards, being named the sector winner in the automotive industry and securing the title of Fastest Moving Employer for the first time. These honours highlight Proton as the top choice for fresh graduates seeking careers in the automotive industry.

  • Top Sector Winner: For the first time, Proton claimed the top spot in the automotive industry category, surpassing two other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Fastest Moving Employer: Proton ascended 42 spots in the M100 overall rankings, leaping from 86th in 2023 to 44th in 2024, reflecting the brand’s growing appeal among graduates.

The Malaysian government continues to support the growth of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, offering various incentives despite the absence of specific provisions in the 2025 Budget.

Key Incentives for Charging Site Operators (CPOs)

The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) highlighted several incentives available to encourage the development of EV charging stations:

  • Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA):
    • CPOs meeting the eligibility criteria can benefit from a 100% Investment Tax Allowance for five years.
    • This allowance allows deductions of up to 100% of statutory income annually.
  • Income Tax Exemption for Manufacturers:
    • Companies producing EV charging equipment are granted full income tax exemptions on statutory income from 2023 to 2032.

Beginning next year, the use of Quick Response (QR) codes at the Johor Causeway will extend beyond buses and motorcycles to include other modes of transportation, announced Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Currently, QR codes are utilised by Malaysians travelling to Singapore by bus via the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and motorcyclists using the automated MBike Immigration clearance system at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB). While no specific timeline for the implementation was disclosed, Saifuddin confirmed that the procurement process will be finalised within the current financial year.

SAIC Motor Malaysia has taken a significant step in enhancing its aftersales service for MG Motor customers by establishing a dedicated parts warehouse in the Klang Valley. This state-of-the-art facility will streamline service efficiency and accelerate repairs for MG owners, catering to both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) models. Among the models supported are the MG4 EV, MG ZS EV, MG5 Sedan, MG HS SUV, and the highly anticipated MG Cyberster EV Roadster.

With an inventory of over 4,500 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) and more than 22,000 parts in stock, the warehouse highlights MG’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional aftersales support. Customers can expect faster service turnaround times, minimizing downtime and ensuring their vehicles remain in top condition.

This milestone coincides with the graduation of 39 certified MG technicians, reflecting SAIC Motor Malaysia’s dedication to expanding its network of authorised service centres.
