A mechanic and two of his staff were injured after a BMW owner drove off with his car, which had been fitted with upgraded accessories, without settling the RM38,000 bill at a workshop in Taman Setia Tropika yesterday.

Johor Baru North police chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh, reported that the 29-year-old mechanic, who owns the workshop, lodged a police report regarding the incident. According to the mechanic, the 40-year-old BMW owner had initially left his car at the workshop on Saturday, September 7, for upgrades, including new tyres, sports rims, and other accessories, with an agreed-upon total cost of RM38,000.

According to NST, the customer returned to the workshop the following day with another individual, requesting a test drive of the upgraded vehicle. Concerned that the customer might leave without paying, the mechanic instructed his 23-year-old employee to accompany them on the test drive in Taman Bukit Kempas.

Pothole repairs in Selangor are set to be significantly expedited following the state’s acquisition of a high-tech Jetpatcher machine from the United Kingdom. It is expected to be valued at RM1 million, according to reports from Selangor Journal. The Jetpatcher, which was introduced during the launch of the Mega Road Resurfacing 2024 project, promises to cut repair time and improve the overall quality of road patches.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture, Izham Hashim, explained that the new machine requires only 15 minutes to patch a pothole, a stark improvement over the traditional method, which takes more than an hour.

“This machine is highly efficient and can be used even during light rain, unlike conventional methods which can be delayed for days due to wet weather,” Izham said. He also highlighted that the Jetpatcher requires minimal manpower, with just four workers needed per site—two to operate the machine and two to manage traffic. In comparison, the conventional method typically requires a team of 15 people.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) announced that the Hyundai Santa Fe is open for booking across Malaysia. Available in both 2.2L Diesel and 1.6L Hybrid variants, the fourth-generation Santa Fe continues to set the benchmark for family SUVs.

The Santa Fe’s modern design makes a striking impression. Its wide grille, featuring Hyundai’s signature geometric pattern, seamlessly integrates with T-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, creating a commanding presence on the road. The SUV’s sporty profile is further accentuated by a dynamic line that flows from front to rear, while the rear features a sleek illuminated bar connecting the taillights, emphasising the mid-size vehicle’s width and stability.

The locally assembled (CKD) Santa Fe offers two compelling powertrain options to suit different driving preferences. The 2.2L Diesel model, powered by a robust CRDi engine, delivers an impressive 202PS and 440Nm of torque, providing a smooth drive when embarking on long-distance journeys. Meanwhile, eco-conscious drivers can opt for the 1.6L Hybrid, which combines a Gamma-II T-GDi Hybrid engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 230PS and 350Nm of torque. This hybrid powertrain offers enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions without compromising on performance.
