A man in his 40s is under investigation for filing a false police report, claiming his luxury car was stolen, in an attempt to secure an insurance payout. The incident occurred in Rembau and was uncovered by the local authorities after thorough inquiries.

According to Superintendent Shaik Abd Kadir Shaik Mohamed, Rembau District Police Chief, the man reported the alleged theft at 3:15 am on Saturday. He claimed he had been robbed by two unknown individuals at approximately 10:30 pm on Friday, who purportedly fled with his Audi and other personal belongings.

The police initially investigated the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which pertains to gang robbery. However, inconsistencies in the man’s account during questioning led investigators to conclude that the report was fabricated.

The Penang government has announced an extension of its popular Pas Mutiara programme, allocating RM7 million to fund 280,000 passes in 2025. This initiative ensures that Rapid Penang bus services will continue to operate free of charge throughout the state for another year.

Introduced on March 1, 2021, the Pas Mutiara programme has seen a strong uptake among Penang residents. As of November 2024, a total of 194,497 passes have been subscribed or renewed, with an average of 17,682 new subscriptions monthly.

A total of 3,500 petrol stations across Peninsular Malaysia have reported collective losses amounting to RM181 million following the government’s decision to float the price of diesel in June this year. The financial strain has prompted a call for urgent reforms in the pricing mechanisms governing the fuel industry.

According to The Star, Datin Hanny Julia Haron, honorary secretary of the Bumiputera Petrol Station Operators Association of Malaysia (Bumipeda), described the diesel subsidy rationalisation as a severe economic challenge for station operators. Speaking at the Bumipeda Southern Region Conference held in Kampung Orang Asli Teluk Jawa on Wednesday, she highlighted the widespread impact of the policy change.

The Ministry of Works (KKR) is set to present a Cabinet paper next month on the future direction of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system. This follows a decision to cease ongoing negotiations with highway concessionaires involved in the project.

Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, confirmed the move, stating that the ministry had issued formal notices to concessionaires, informing them of the decision to discontinue discussions.

“The negotiation process has not continued because today (yesterday) marks the final day. We have sent letters to the relevant companies to halt negotiations,” Ahmad Maslan explained during a press conference.

He further added, “The Ministry will prepare and submit a Cabinet paper on the direction of the MLFF to the Cabinet in January 2025 for review and approval.”

The announcement was made during a media briefing at the Malaysian Special Search and Rescue Team (SMART) Headquarters in Pulau Meranti. The event also included an inspection of the construction site for a disaster simulation project. Selangor JKR Director, Shukri Ishak, and SMART Commander Senior Fire Chief, Mohd Khairul Jamil, were among those in attendance.
