The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV may appear similar to its conventional counterparts, but its distinguishing feature lies in its plug-in hydrogen setup, as indicated by the two fuel caps. Unlike traditional plug-in hybrids, this CR-V combines a fuel cell setup with a battery pack, making it a unique offering in the market.

Referred to as the only fuel-cell electric passenger vehicle made in America, the compact SUV boasts a sophisticated powertrain configuration. It features a front-mounted electric motor generating 174hp and 310Nm of torque. The compressed hydrogen gas tank, with a capacity of 4.3 kilograms, provides an EPA-certified driving range of 434km. Additionally, the separate 17.7-kilowatt-hour battery pack offers an EPA-estimated 46km of electric range.

Incorporating bidirectional charging capabilities akin to conventional plug-in hybrids and battery EVs, the CR-V e:FCEV includes a power supply connector that can deliver up to 1,500 watts of power through a standard 110-volt outlet. This feature enables users to power various appliances, camping equipment, tools, and even portable air conditioners.

Given the unique weight distribution of the SUV, Honda has completely re-tuned the suspension system at both the front and rear axles. The CR-V e:FCEV utilises a MacPherson strut front and a multi-link rear suspension setup. Improvements in rear lateral and torsional rigidity, up by 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively, over combustion engine models, are achieved through the implementation of new stabiliser bars, dampers, and springs.

This model marks Honda’s debut of the second generation of its fuel cell module, co-developed with General Motors and manufactured in Michigan. Notable enhancements include increased efficiency, durability, refinement, and cost-effectiveness compared to its predecessor. Production costs for the fuel cell have been substantially reduced by two-thirds compared to the discontinued Clarity Fuel Cell.

Visually, the CR-V e:FCEV features distinct design elements to set it apart from its non-hydrogen counterparts. Changes to the front fenders, bumper, partially black tailgate, clear taillights, and 18-inch black alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design contribute to its unique aesthetic. Underneath the SUV, a fully closed underfloor improves airflow for enhanced efficiency.

For the 2025 model year, the CR-V e:FCEV will be exclusively offered as a Touring trim level, boasting a comprehensive list of standard features. From electrically adjustable heated front seats to a 12-speaker Bose sound system, the Touring trim includes luxurious amenities such as dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and a wireless charging pad. Standard technology features include a 9-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Scheduled for lease availability in California later this year, the 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV represents a significant step forward in Honda’s commitment to sustainable mobility and innovative technology.

The star of this year’s Geneva Motor Show undoubtedly is the all-new Renault 5, marking the return of the iconic supermini to European roads, albeit with a twist—it’s now entirely electric.

Originally discontinued in 1996, the reimagined Renault 5, now dubbed the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, is poised to navigate the urban landscape with eco-friendliness in mind. Retaining much of the charm of its predecessor, the electric supermini boasts a retro-futuristic design, seamlessly blending nostalgia with modernity.

The exterior design pays homage to its heritage with cute headlights, vertical taillights, and prominent wheel arches reminiscent of its predecessor. Notably, the rear door handles are cleverly integrated into the C-pillars, creating the illusion of a three-door layout reminiscent of the original Renault 5. While past iterations offered both three and five-door variants, the new model opts exclusively for a five-door configuration, albeit with red body accents paying homage to the iconic R5 Turbo. Additionally, enthusiasts can anticipate a hot hatch variant in the form of the Alpine A290 slated for release later in 2024.

Inside, the Renault 5 features vertical stitching on the dashboard and rectangular air vents, evoking memories of the original model. The digital instrument cluster and infotainment display, available in either 7.0 or 10.0 inches, further enhance the retro-modern theme.

Despite its petite stature, the 2024 Renault 5 boasts ample cargo space, measuring 325 litres, and rides on large 18-inch wheels with 195/55 R18 tyres. Utilising the AmpR Small platform (formerly CMF-B EV), it strikes a balance between compact dimensions and practicality.

The Renault 5 packs either a 40.0-kilowatt-hour or 52.0-kWh battery, powering a front-mounted motor delivering between 95 to 150hp, depending on the chosen configuration. Range varies between 300 to 400km, with fast-charging capabilities allowing for quick replenishment.

Unique to its segment, the Renault 5 boasts a multi-link rear independent suspension, along with bidirectional charging, a heat pump, and brake energy recuperation technology for enhanced efficiency. Notably, the oversized 5 logo on the hood doubles as a battery charge indicator light—a clever touch.

With an entry price around €25,000 (RM129,659), the Renault 5 combines affordability with eco-consciousness, signalling a promising future for electric mobility. Produced in France, it sets the stage for the return of other iconic Renault models, including the R4 and the next-generation Twingo, both slated for electric reincarnations in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

BYD, a renowned pioneer in new energy vehicles and power batteries, presents the debut of its first pure electric supercar model, the U9, under its high-end sub-brand, YANGWANG. Priced at 1.68 million RMB (RM1,114,756), the U9 is slated to commence deliveries starting this June.

Embodying the signature “Time Gate” design language, the YANGWANG U9 showcases a distinct aesthetic characterised by unique proportions, tension, and power, affirming its status as a true pure electric supercar.

Powered by two cutting-edge technologies – the e4 platform and the DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System – the YANGWANG U9 redefines the pure electric supercar segment by seamlessly integrating track performance, street adaptability, and playful features.

The e4 Platform serves as the powerhouse, boasting four independent electric motors for agile and precise four-wheel torque output control. With a staggering 1,300hp and a maximum torque of 1680Nm, the U9 ensures the ultimate in safety, performance, and driving experience.

The BYD DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System marks another groundbreaking advancement, enabling the U9 to achieve unmatched adjustability with a maximum suspension travel of up to 75mm. Porsche, the renowned German sports car manufacturer, has surprised tech enthusiasts by teaming up with Shenzhen-based electronics firm HONOR to infuse luxury and automotive design into the latest iteration of its folding phone.

Dubbed the Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR, with “RSR” paying homage to “RennSport Rennwagen” (translated to “Racing Sport Racing Car”), this collaboration has birthed a revamped outer design for the Magic V2 foldable phone launched last year, along with a heftier price tag of £2,349.99 (RM14,211) ― a £650 (RM3,930) premium over the standard price of the HONOR Magic V2.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Porsche silhouette, affectionately known as the “flyline,” the handset sports a sleek ridge along its back. This design element, according to marketing materials, exudes the legendary sports car’s sense of dynamic sportiness.

Additionally, the camera module has received an upgrade from the standard HONOR Magic V2, featuring a titanium frame and a distinctive trapezoid shape. The phone is available in a single colour option: Agate Grey, a subtle blend of light green and grey reminiscent of many Porsche models, including the iconic 911.

Despite the added Porsche flair, the dimensions of the Magic V2 remain unchanged, measuring 9.9mm when folded and 4.7mm when open. Interestingly, the Magic V2 claims the title of the world’s thinnest folding phone, edging out competitors like the iPhone 15.

The Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR weighs 234g, 3g more than the standard model. In the UK, it will be accompanied by a stylus, a protective case made from stitched dark grey vegan leather, and a spare 66W fast charger.

At the upcoming global launch of the HONOR Magic6 Series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, HONOR is poised to introduce an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) feature that promises to redefine the driving experience.

The pioneering technology involves an AI-powered eye-tracking feature integrated into the HONOR Magic6 Pro, allowing drivers to control their vehicles solely with their gaze. This groundbreaking development eliminates the need for physical touch or voice commands, representing a significant leap forward in automotive technology.

To showcase the capabilities of this cutting-edge feature, HONOR has collaborated with automotive engineer Professor James Brighton. In a demonstration video, the HONOR Magic6 Pro seamlessly responds to four distinct eye commands, enabling drivers to start and stop the engine, as well as manoeuvre the vehicle forward and backward.

If the Maybach was not luxurious enough for you, Mercedes-Benz has rekindled excitement with its announcement of the forthcoming Mythos-branded models, initially revealed back in 2022. Despite a quiet spell since the unveiling, the automaker recently reassured enthusiasts that progress is underway, hinting at an imminent debut for the highly anticipated Mythos-badged vehicle.

In a presentation highlighting Mercedes-Benz’s 2023 performance for stakeholders, the company outlined a strategic roadmap aimed at catering to its most discerning clientele. Among the key initiatives mentioned were the expansion of the Manufaktur personalisation program, a strategic partnership with fashion giant Moncler, a collaboration with renowned designer Virgil Abloh on a limited-edition Maybach, and the introduction of the inaugural model from the Mythos series, slated for release in 2025.

While specific details surrounding the Mythos lineup remain closely guarded, indications suggest that the first model to bear the Mythos badge will be an evolution of the recently launched SL. Described as “ultra-exclusive collector cars,” the Mythos range promises to push the boundaries of luxury, appealing to customers who seek a level of opulence beyond what Maybach currently offers. However, securing one of these coveted models may prove challenging, as Mercedes-Benz intends to reserve them for a select group of dedicated enthusiasts and collectors.

The Bugatti Bolide stands as a testament to automotive engineering, blending the iconic W16 engine with cutting-edge lightweight techniques to deliver an unparalleled track driving experience. At the heart of the Bolide’s performance lies its braking technology, featuring the largest carbon brake system ever produced by Brembo.

Bugatti tasked Brembo with the challenge of creating a brake system that matches the Bolide’s uncompromising nature. Over two years of rigorous testing and development, Brembo engineers collaborated closely with Bugatti to craft a brake system that pushes the boundaries of design and performance.

The Bolide’s front brakes are a marvel of engineering, boasting two eight-piston monobloc callipers with high-performance pads and massive 390×37.5 mm carbon discs. The rear brakes mirror the front setup, featuring two six-piston monobloc callipers and sizable 390×34 mm carbon discs. Despite their imposing size, the callipers are machined from aluminium alloy and nickel-coated for optimal performance.

Mario Almondo, Chief Operating Officer of Brembo Performance, expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting the engineering prowess required to develop a brake system for the Bolide. The use of carbon compounds akin to those in Formula 1 allowed for a lightweight design without compromising performance.

The lightweight design not only reduces overall system weight but also ensures exceptional thermal conductivity for superior heat dissipation during intense braking. This prevents brake fade and provides consistent performance even under extreme conditions.

The holistic approach to the brake system extends beyond callipers and discs, encompassing bespoke master cylinders and specially formulated fluid. Every component works in harmony to deliver exceptional performance on the track.

Collaboration between Bugatti and Brembo also focused on optimising brake system cooling, crucial for managing the energy unleashed by the Bugatti W16 engine. By directing airflow precisely to the discs and pads, the system ensures optimal performance during rigorous track sessions.

Through extensive testing and refinement, the brake system of the Bolide has been fine-tuned to excel in diverse conditions, including wet weather scenarios. This attention to detail ensures that the Bolide remains unrivalled, delivering outstanding performance without compromising safety or security on the track.

Singapore’s Transport Minister, Chee Hong Tat, emphasised that foreign drivers and foreign-registered vehicles must possess a valid license before engaging in cross-border services. This requirement aims to safeguard passengers, as licensed drivers must maintain valid insurance coverage for passengers, as reported by FMT.

Chee praised Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) for intercepting four drivers attempting illegal cross-border operations and urged the LTA to maintain a strong stance against such activities, including conducting undercover operations to apprehend violators. He cautioned potential offenders, highlighting the risk of encountering undercover LTA officers during illegal operations.

The LTA reiterated its commitment to addressing such offences, emphasising the risks involved in using unauthorised services. In addition to their illegality, vehicles utilised in these services may lack adequate insurance coverage for passengers, posing significant risks in case of accidents.

In recent days, a wave of complaints has surfaced on social media platforms from newly minted Cybertruck owners, alleging the emergence of rust spots on their pristine electric vehicles, which come with a hefty price tag of up to $99,900 (RM478,121). One owner went as far as claiming they were forewarned upon delivery that their truck might succumb to rust when exposed to rain.

A member of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum voiced their concern, recounting how an advisor had cautioned them about the possibility of the Cybertruck developing orange rust marks in wet conditions, necessitating buffing to rectify the issue.

Wes Morrill, an engineer associated with the Cybertruck, took to X to address these rust-related grievances. He clarified that the reported specks of rust were minuscule, akin to the size of a “pinhead,” and emphasised that they did not originate from the stainless-steel body of the vehicle.

In his post, Morrill elucidated that the rust-like spots were attributed to surface contamination rather than inherent metal rusting. He shared insights on how to mitigate these orange blemishes, attributing them to metal particles that might have accumulated during manufacturing or transportation, particularly via railways. With over 13 years of experience at Tesla, as indicated by his LinkedIn profile, Morrill referenced a pertinent YouTube video to corroborate his explanation.

“Good myth busting. Stainless is reactive and free iron that sits on it will rust,” remarked the Cybertruck engineer. “It’s surface contamination only and can be cleaned off easily.”

Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, seemingly validated Morrill’s assertions by responding with a succinct “Yeah” to the post.

Stainless steel, largely avoided by automakers due to its shaping challenges and susceptibility to smudging, marks a departure from convention with the Cybertruck. Notably, it stands as the first production vehicle since the Delorean in 1983 to boast a stainless-steel construction, underscoring Tesla’s penchant for innovation amidst manufacturing challenges.

Zagato, an Italian coachbuilding company, has recently unveiled its latest automotive masterpiece, the AGTZ Twin Tail, a bespoke version of the Alpine A110 sports car crafted in homage to a forgotten racing legend from the 1960s. Limited to a mere 19 units, this exclusive model capitalises on the current fascination with long-tail supercars while reverently nodding to historical racing heritage.

Dubbed the “Twin Tail,” this exceptional car features a removable carbon fibre appendage, allowing owners to alternate between a striking long-tail silhouette and a more practical configuration for everyday use, facilitating easier parking and manoeuvring.

However, the significance of this design element transcends mere aesthetics. It pays homage to the Alpine A220, a legendary long-tail racecar that graced the tracks of the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Despite falling short of its Le Mans aspirations, one particular A220 variant (chassis 1731) achieved notable success after having its tail section removed, excelling in hill climbs and various competitions, ultimately securing podium finishes.

Beyond its distinctive rear treatment, the AGTZ Twin Tail boasts several other enhancements. The grille and headlights have been reimagined, complemented by a new rear inlet and an upturned lower edge on the side window. Additionally, the roof adopts a subtle double-bubble contour, adding a touch of elegance to the car’s profile.

While detailed performance specifications are yet to be disclosed, it remains unclear if the A110’s existing 1.8-litre engine will undergo modification. Nevertheless, the standard A110 model delivers 252hp, while its top-tier counterpart, the A110 R, generates an impressive 297hp. CEO Andrea Zagato emphasises that, true to the Zagato ethos, the AGTZ Twin Tail is designed as a grand tourer, prioritising luxurious comfort and refined performance over raw racing prowess.

Priced at €650,000 (RM3,371,996) and with demand rapidly outpacing availability, prospective buyers are urged to secure their orders swiftly. The AGTZ Twin Tail is slated to make its physical debut in May at Lake Como, Italy, where enthusiasts and collectors will have the opportunity to witness this rare and exceptional creation in all its glory.
