Proton has unveiled its latest model, the Proton S70. It is the company’s first all-new sedan model since the launch of the Proton Persona in August 2016. The model’s official name was revealed along with the tagline “Intelligence that Evolves” by Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton. Customer bookings for the Proton S70 will commence on November 1, 2023, with a fee of RM500.

It is a new chapter for Proton as it re-enters the family sedan market with an intelligent, safety-focused, and well-equipped model. The S70 features intelligent safety technology, connectivity, and a 1.5L turbocharged engine with a dual-clutch transmission, designed to cater to existing and new Proton enthusiasts.

The S70 is the fourth all-new Proton model developed in collaboration with Geely, following the Proton X70, Proton X50, and the mild hybrid Proton X90. It is the second all-new model to be introduced in 2023. Before its official launch, customer previews will be held in major Malaysian state capitals, providing an up-close viewing of the model.

Proton’s line-off ceremony is considered a crucial step in partnership with DRB-Hicom and Geely to establish Tanjong Malim and the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) as a national automotive hub. Proton has made substantial investments in upgrading facilities, including a new engine assembly line, a stamping shop, and assembly lines, amounting to over RM1.8 billion since 2019. These efforts will help Proton expand its range of vehicles, including New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and eventually electric vehicles.

The Proton S70 is poised to continue Proton’s journey of growth and innovation, aiming to compete in the family sedan market segment once led by models like the Proton Wira, Waja, and Prevé.

The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (often referred to as Jokowi), has pointed out that Indonesia’s global competitiveness remains significantly lacking, given that the extent of the national toll road network only stretches to 2,800km.

During his tenure, Jokowi noted that a grand total of 2,040km of toll roads have been constructed, representing a substantial increase from the previous 780km.

This signifies that Indonesia possesses just 2,800km of toll roads. In contrast, China boasts a staggering 280,000km.

According to the nation’s leader, the length of Indonesia’s toll road network underscores a considerable competitiveness gap when compared to China.

For Sumatra Island, the government had laid out plans for constructing the Trans Sumatra Motorway (JTTS), which encompasses 2,800km in total, with 1,800km designated as the island’s primary backbone, as highlighted by Jokowi.

Jokowi cited insights from community and religious leaders in South Sumatra, who pointed out that the journey from Palembang to Lampung previously consumed 10-12 hours.

Richard Mille and Ferrari have joined forces to create a remarkable ultra-thin watch – the RM UP-01 Ferrari. This watch not only embodies a blend of their best expertise but also aligns with the values shared by both iconic brands.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari combines elegant design with sporting mechanisms, defying contemporary trends to establish new aesthetic codes. The watch is a testament to their partnership, and its technical prowess is particularly impressive.

At a mere 1.75 millimetres thick, the RM UP-01 Ferrari is an impressive technological feat, showcasing a fresh approach to watch mechanics where technicality governs aesthetics. Over six thousand hours of development and laboratory testing went into its creation, resulting in a timepiece that breaks traditional conventions.

To create this ultra-flat watch, a traditional movement with superimposed gears and hands was not an option. Instead, a close relationship between the movement and case was established to ensure both delivered the required rigidity. The baseplate and bridges are crafted from grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant, and rigid alloy. These qualities make it a common material in industries like aerospace, aeronautics, and automotive.

The RM UP-01 Ultraflat features a new escapement and balance wheel in grade 5 titanium that significantly reduces the calibre’s thickness while maintaining security. This patented ultra-flat escapement does away with traditional dart and safety roller components, streamlining the design and reducing its height.

The two crowns integrated into the bezel offer winding (W) and hand-setting (H) functions, while two black ceramic inserts protect the bezel and ensure water resistance.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari is a limited edition with only 150 pieces available, each priced at $1.88 million.

When travelling to foreign countries, the most common mode of transportation is often e-hailing or taxi services. Car rental is another option, but it comes with its own set of considerations. Unfortunately, taxi drivers sometimes exploit tourists, hiking up fares significantly, especially when the passengers are foreigners.

As reported by Mothership, a group of foreigners recently fell victim to such a scam in Singapore, where they were charged a staggering $100 SGD for a mere 3-kilometre journey, which took approximately seven to ten minutes. The incident was captured on video, and the conversation with the taxi driver was later uploaded to YouTube.

Filmed on September 18 and 19, 2023, at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, the footage was produced for the Carl Runefelt Vlogs channel and showcased the Token 2049 cryptocurrency conference. The vehicle that transported the passengers was parked in the designated taxi area and displayed a “Taxi” sign above it.

The group, consisting of five individuals, including a videographer, had been trying to secure a private rental car or hail a cab. The video highlighted their interaction with the taxi driver, which escalated to an astonishing fare quote when the video reached the nine-minute mark, the time they were supposed to reach Park Royal Collection Pickering.

The taxi driver, with a censored face, cited the congestion in the area and declared the ride would cost a hefty S$100.

In an era when automakers once expected their sports cars to clinch rally victories, Nissan’s tribute to its 1971 East African Safari Rally success in a 240Z is a compelling nod to those glory days. This one-of-a-kind rally Z, crafted by the skilled hands of Tommy Pike, makes its debut at the 2023 SEMA show, capturing the essence of past triumphs.

Tommy Pike’s creation has seen the rally Z lifted, thanks to the installation of KW Safari suspension, bolstered by a selection of NISMO components. The rugged appearance is complemented by 17 x 7.5-inch prototype NISMO Safari wheels shod in Yokohama GEOLANDAR M/T G003 tires, resulting in an impressive 2-inch increase in ride height.

Protection for the Z’s underbelly is paramount. Front bumper guards and a skid plate have been thoughtfully added to safeguard against rough terrain, while NISMO Off Road LED lights provide crucial illumination.

Inside the cabin, driver safety is a top priority, with Recaro Pole Position seats adorned with four-point harnesses.

Under the bonnet, the twin-turbo V6 has received the skilled tuning hand of AMS, pushing power output beyond the 400hp mark. This performance boost is made possible through a comprehensive list of enhancements, including a cat-back exhaust system, cold air intake, a carbon fibre engine cover, a coolant expansion tank, a street twin-disc clutch, and flywheel.

Visually, the Safari Rally Z Tribute is a striking sight, finished in red with a distinctive black hood. The design harks back to the iconic number 11 Datsun 240Z that secured victory in the 1971 East African Safari Rally, with Edgar Herrmann at the wheel and Hans Schüller navigating. This win marked a significant milestone for the brand, being the second consecutive victory following the Datsun Bluebird 1600SSS’s triumph in 1970.

Nissan’s homage to its rally heritage, as witnessed in the 2023 SEMA show build, serves as a powerful reminder of the bygone era when sports cars were expected to dominate rally circuits, and Nissan certainly left an indelible mark in those legendary races.

ErreErre Fuoriserie, a Turin-based coachbuilder, has unveiled a retro-inspired body kit for the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which was initially showcased as a concept in mid-2022. The finalised kit has undergone several revisions and has elicited mixed opinions.

The modifications to the Giulia begin at the front, where the saloon now boasts four circular LED headlights and a silver grille. Alterations have been made to the lower air intakes, and a new bonnet design has garnered widespread appeal. However, the side view and three-quarter profile have sparked controversy.

The front wheel arches have undergone significant flaring, which some consider excessive and lacking refinement. A pronounced shoulder line extends from the front of the bonnet to the tailgate, resulting in an eye-catching, somewhat over-the-top appearance. The doors, rocker panels, and skirts have been reworked, while the rear wheel arches have been squared off. The rear design takes an unconventional turn.

The C-pillars have been modified to accommodate two spoilers extending from the roof. The tailgate has been entirely reimagined, giving rise to a boxy shape, a departure from the original Giulia’s more subtle curves. Notably, the distinctive taillights stand out, and the rear end’s redeeming features may lie in the diffuser and the two central tailpipes.

Inside the vehicle, the interior updates have been executed more tastefully. Brown leather adorns the upper section of the dashboard, door panels, and seat bolsters, complemented by light grey Alcantara in other areas.

Beneath the bonnet, Bilstein suspension enhancements have been incorporated, and the Giulia’s 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine now generates 562hp. What sets this model apart is the inclusion of a rare six-speed manual transmission. ErreErre Fuoriserie plans to produce a limited run of just 33 units of this retro Giulia, with pricing details yet to be disclosed.

Volkswagen has offered a tantalising sneak peek at the upcoming all-electric estate version of its flagship ID.7 model, which now goes by the name ID.7 Tourer. The highly anticipated model is slated for release in Europe in 2024 and promises a blend of spaciousness and impressive efficiency. Volkswagen plans to reveal the final design in the forthcoming months.

With the ID.7 Tourer, Volkswagen marks its entry into the all-electric estate segment, poised to make its debut in 2024.

An aerodynamic design is a cornerstone for achieving extended driving ranges. The ID.7 saloon, previously unveiled and now hitting European roads, stands as a testament to Volkswagen’s commitment to aerodynamics, boasting a remarkable Cd-value of 0.23. The ID.7 Tourer is no slouch in this department either, with a nearly identical Cd-value of 0.24. Even beneath the intriguing Indian summer camouflage, the ID.7 Tourer’s elegant and commanding design shines through.

The ID.7 Tourer is presently clad in a seasonal camouflage pattern, echoing the multi-layer paint scheme showcased on the ID.7 saloon at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. The imagery of the camouflage exudes an Indian summer aesthetic, with seamlessly integrated QR codes at the rear.

The ID.7 Tourer offers a luxurious interior with its short overhangs and extended wheelbase. When carrying a full complement of five passengers, the car’s cargo capacity extends up to 545 litres, reaching the height of the rear seat backrest. Fold those seats down, and the nearly two-metre-long cargo space can expand to an impressive 1,714 litres.

Like all members of the ID. family, the ID.7 Tourer is built on the MEB platform from the Volkswagen Group. The advantages of this modular system, including short overhangs and an extended wheelbase, yield a spacious and elegant full-sized hatchback with an expansive sense of roominess and a substantial increase in trunk capacity.

Following the successful production of the ID.4, the ID.7 Tourer is the second model based on the MEB platform to be manufactured at Volkswagen’s Emden plant, reaffirming the company’s commitment to electric mobility in Germany’s north-western region.

As the automotive world continues its electric revolution, Volkswagen’s ID.7 Tourer stands as a compelling addition, combining efficiency, style, and the promise of a brighter, sustainable future.
