Malaysia is setting its sights on sustainable aerospace manufacturing, seeking collaboration with aerospace giant Boeing to leverage advanced technologies and practices. Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Malaysia’s investment, trade, and industry minister, highlighted the need for swift action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The collaboration with Boeing is seen as a crucial step towards accelerating sustainable manufacturing in the country’s aerospace industry.

In an effort to expedite the adoption of sustainable manufacturing practices, Malaysia is reaching out to global partners like Boeing, aiming to foster the rapid institutionalisation of these practices. Minister Tengku Zafrul stressed the urgency to act swiftly, underlining the global imperative to reduce greenhouse gases. He emphasised that both speed and scale are essential to drive the integration of sustainable manufacturing practices.

Malaysia is seeking increased incentives and allocations for its aerospace industry in the 2024 Budget. Minister Tengku Zafrul expressed hope for additional support, complementing the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and Malaysian Aerospace Blueprint 2030. These initiatives are aimed at positioning Malaysia as a prominent aerospace hub in Southeast Asia and a crucial part of the global aerospace supply chain by 2030.

UMW Toyota Motor concluded September 2023 with sales totalling 9,228 units (combining Toyota and Lexus). This achievement contributes to a year-to-date sales figure of 76,511 units as of September 2023, marking an 8.0% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

To bolster its position in the Malaysian non-national B-segment hatchback market, Toyota introduced the Yaris IMP. This model, built on the success of its predecessor, offers styling enhancements, new technology, and a refreshed interior ambience. The Yaris IMP is designed to resonate with a Gen-Z audience seeking an upgrade in their status symbol.

Isuzu Motors Limited introduced its significantly enhanced one-ton pickup truck, the Isuzu D-MAX, in Thailand on October 6. Sales are set to commence on October 12 in Thailand, followed by a gradual rollout across the globe.

The D-MAX, now in its third generation, has been a popular choice among drivers for its robust design, agile performance on challenging terrains, and impressive fuel efficiency since its debut in October 2019. The latest upgraded model is aimed at better meeting the market’s demands by refining both interior and exterior designs, catering to diverse needs of drivers worldwide.

The exterior updates focus on a redesigned front end, showcasing a 3D-look grille, new headlights with Bi-Led technology in high-spec trims, and modified bumper intakes with air-curtains on the sides. The rear now features a new tailgate with an integrated spoiler and revised taillight graphics. The D-Max V-Cross 4×4 flagship trim stands out with extra plastic cladding, aluminum-style skid plates, wide fender extensions, matte black 18-inch alloy wheels, and other rugged enhancements.

BMW is gearing up for the official debut of the all-new X2, slated for October 11, and they have provided a more revealing teaser of the M performance version of the upcoming entry-level coupe-SUV. Alongside the X2, they have confirmed the world premiere of the electric iX2.

The X2 M35i, as described by BMW, is “even more distinctive and forward-looking” compared to its predecessor. The latest teaser video showcases various exterior features of the 2024 X2 M35i, including an illuminated grille inspired by the XM, sculpted bonnet, black-finished bumper, and M-branded brake calipers visible behind large-diameter alloy wheels.

Audi has given its flagship SUV, the Q8, a significant mid-cycle update, enhancing technology, perceived quality, and simplifying its exterior design. This update comes approximately five years after the Q8’s initial launch and incorporates discreet styling alterations and advanced lighting technology.

Notable updates include optional HD Matrix LED headlights with a laser high beam and OLEDs in the taillights, elevating the lighting setup. The front grille features octagonal elements, adding a refreshing touch to the design. The 2023 Geneva International Motor Show showcased a variant of the Q8 with carbon fiber side mirror caps and massive 23-inch wheels, although smaller 22- and 21-inch wheel options will also be available.

Bentley Kuala Lumpur bids farewell to the iconic W12 petrol powertrain with the delivery of its final Bentayga Speed, marking the last Bentayga model in Malaysia to include the W12 engine.

This move follows Bentley Motor’s global announcement to discontinue the W12 engine as part of its Beyond 100 strategy, focusing on the full electrification of all models to position Bentley as a leader in sustainable luxury mobility. Orders for the Bentayga Speed featuring the W12 powertrain ceased at the end of July 2023.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine, the Speed offers remarkable top speeds without compromising on luxury and comfort, accompanied by a range of customisations and exclusive styling.

BMW Malaysia has introduced the new BMW X1 sDrive20i xLine, expanding its esteemed lineup of compact Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) assembled within Malaysia. This latest variant marks the third generation of the BMW X1 series, boasting larger dimensions and a commanding presence on the road.

In terms of design, the X1 showcases a bold road presence with a prominent kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights, and distinctive lines. The wheel arches and 19-inch light alloy wheels underscore the characteristic BMW X look. It has larger dimensions, measuring 4,500mm in length, 1,845mm in width, 1,616mm in height, and featuring a wheelbase of 2,692mm. For reference sake, the Honda HR-V is 4,385mm long and 1,790mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,610mm. The luggage compartment offers an impressive maximum capacity of 1,527 litres.

One of the highlights is the Daihatsu Osanpo, an electric roadster that epitomizes the brand’s quirky and innovative design approach. The name “Osanpo” translates to “to walk” in Japanese, emphasising the ease and comfort of enjoying an open-air experience akin to a leisurely stroll. With a compact length of 3,395mm, the Osanpo promises a unique and compact driving experience. For comparison, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is 3914mm, thus the Osanpo is a fairly small machine.

Subaru is bringing back a blast from the past with the revival of the TR moniker, last seen in 2006 when it stood for “Tuner Ready”. The 2024 WRX TR, however, takes a different direction, presenting a performance-focused model with significant upgrades and modifications for enthusiasts.

In the pursuit of enhanced performance, the WRX TR boasts a high-performance Brembo braking system with red 6-piston front callipers, red 2-piston rear callipers, larger pads, rotors, and an enlarged brake master cylinder.
