Five Jaecoo J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) recently undertook a challenging journey from Singapore, through Malaysia, to Hatyai, Thailand, pushing the limits of the vehicle’s range and showcasing its impressive capabilities. All five vehicles surpassed the 1,200km WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) range, with the longest recorded distance reaching 1,427.5km.
The WLTP range, which measures the maximum distance an EV can travel on a single charge under standardised conditions, was significantly exceeded during the drive.
The drive also highlighted the vehicle’s exceptional fuel efficiency and range performance. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV covered 947km on petrol alone, while its pure electric range reached 108km, surpassing its stated specification by 18km. The vehicle also achieved remarkable fuel consumption rates of 3.5L/100km, significantly better than its standard 6.6L/100km, further underlining its efficiency.
Super Hybrid System and Advanced Performance
The outstanding performance of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is attributed to its Super Hybrid System, comprising three core components: a fifth-generation 1.5TGDI hybrid engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission, and a high-performance hybrid battery pack. This system produces 525Nm of torque, offering seamless transitions and exceptional power while maintaining superior fuel economy.
The hybrid system integrates multiple energy replenishment modes, providing users with flexible charging options. The vehicle can be charged via a standard 230V home socket from 0% to 100% in 8.5 hours at 3.3kW, or through an AC charger, which charges from 30% to 80% in three hours at 6.6kW. Notably, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is the only model in its class to feature DC fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes at 40kW.
Durability and Safety at the Core
Safety and reliability have been prioritised in the Jaecoo J7 PHEV’s design, particularly in its specialised hybrid battery. The battery includes advanced thermal management, impact-resistant construction with an internal shield and external iron-clad structure, and an IP68 rating to ensure optimal performance under extreme weather conditions. Additionally, the battery’s fire-resistant properties offer added peace of mind, even under conditions such as punctures or compression.
A Journey to Empower Consumers
The long-haul test drive served as a demonstration of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV’s adaptability to local market conditions and its ability to meet consumer expectations for range, energy consumption, and overall performance. With the vehicle set to launch in Malaysia in February 2025, Jaecoo aims to redefine hybrid technology and enhance customer confidence in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV, available in a two-wheel-drive variant, is poised to make a significant impact on Malaysia’s automotive landscape, offering an unmatched combination of performance, efficiency, and cutting-edge technology.
