Following the signing of the agreement to appoint the Combined Motor Holdings (CMH) Group as the distributor for Proton vehicles in South Africa in April this year, the Malaysian brand has returned to the continent’s largest passenger vehicle market. Besides Proton, CMH also represents brands such as Ford, Chery, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Mahindra, Peugeot and Citroen.
CMH recently held an official relaunch of the brand which included introducing the X70 and X50 SUVs. Manufactured at Proton’s Tg, Malim plant in Perak, the first batch of vehicles was shipped by sea to the port of Durban. Later in the year or in early 2023, CMH will also introduce the Saga.
(more…)The original HUMMER is well known as a civilian version of the HUMVEE (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) used by military forces, mainly American. The HUMVEE is the spiritual successor of the jeep used in earlier wars.
GMC has developed an all-new 21st century HUMMER (the last one was discontinued in 2010) which lays claim to being the world’s first fully electric supertruck. Its powertrain will produce an estimated 1,000 horsepower and 15,590 Nm of torque, giving a 0 – 97 km/ time that will be around 3 seconds. Designed and engineered to cross the roughest type of terrain, it has 330 mm of suspension travel to give exceptional off-road capability.

The Project RBS is the work of Tony Hatter, a British designer who was with Porsche at one time. Hatter conceived the Bergmeister as an all-carbon skinned roadster which combines the best of classic design and modern engineering in a package ready to master both road and track.
(more…)The last time Maserati had a GranTurismo in the showrooms was in 2019, and then production of the model stopped after some 40,000 cars had been sold worldwide. At that time, the carmaker didn’t say it was the end of the line but rather that it was focussing on factory renovation. It also said that it would develop a new ‘Made in Italy’ high-performance sportscar which would undoubtedly continue the iconic model line that began 75 years ago.
The all-new GranTurismo must be nearing launch as it has now been revealed in public without camouflage. With ‘a selected number of employees from the Maserati Family in the driving seat’ and travelling many kilometres, prototypes must be undergoing final real-world testing. This is the time when pictures start to appear in social media so the company has probably decided that it’s more practical to simply allow the car to be seen uncamouflaged.
(more…)When the Subaru XV (as Malaysians knew it) was introduced 10 years ago, it was also known as the Crosstrek in North America. Perhaps there was some other model in that market that also had a similar badge or Subaru wanted a more ‘substantial’ name for its biggest market.
For the third generation revealed recently, it has decided to use only Crosstrek globally which will begin sales in Japan in early 2023. Apart from simplifying communications, that should also save Subaru some money on making a separate set of badges!
