GAC Honda has officially introduced the P7 in China, an all-electric SUV that represents the brand’s first venture under the newly developed “Architecture W”, a platform purpose-built for battery electric vehicles. With prices ranging from 199,900 to 249,900 yuan (around RM131,000 to RM164,000), the P7 arrives in three distinct variants, each aimed at redefining Honda’s presence in the EV segment.
The P7 makes a bold visual statement with its futuristic design language inspired by mechanical aesthetics. Its broad, low-slung profile is crafted for aerodynamic efficiency, enhanced by a seamless body construction that reduces drag. At the front, a closed-off grille is complemented by a full-width LED light bar, while the lower section features a blacked-out multi-slat bumper that adds visual depth and aggression to the SUV’s appearance. Notably, the P7 is also the first model to carry Honda’s latest brand emblem, signifying a new design direction for the marque.
Dimensionally, the P7 positions itself as a spacious option in its class. It stretches 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and stands at 1,625 mm tall, supported by an extended wheelbase of 2,930 mm. For comparison, this places it larger than the sixth-generation Honda CR-V currently sold in Malaysia, particularly in terms of wheelbase and overall width, which contributes to a notably high space utilisation rate of 85.8%.
Inside the cabin, the P7 continues its emphasis on comfort and technology. A panoramic sunroof offers impressive levels of protection by blocking 95 per cent of infrared radiation and 99.9 per cent of harmful ultraviolet rays. This ensures a cool, private atmosphere for occupants, even under intense sunlight.
The interior technology suite is equally forward-thinking. It features the latest iteration of Honda CONNECT 4.0, an advanced AI-powered voice assistant capable of engaging in multi-turn conversations without the need for a wake-up command. The system is refined enough to recognise regional dialects and supports precise four-zone voice control. Passengers benefit from seamless connectivity options as well, with support for wireless Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar, Baidu CarLife, and Siri-based voice commands.
Adding to the in-cabin experience, the P7 debuts the segment’s first dual-headrest BOSE audio system for the front seats. A total of 16 speakers are distributed throughout the interior, promising an immersive surround sound environment that elevates the driving experience.
Performance figures for the P7 reveal a dynamic edge rarely seen in this category. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivers an output of 201hp, while the rear motor produces 268hp. Torque figures are equally impressive, rated at 350Nm for the front motor and 420Nm at the rear. These specifications enable the P7 AWD to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Both the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions offer competitive driving ranges under the CLTC standard, with the RWD model capable of 650km on a single charge, while the AWD variant manages 620km. These figures reflect GAC Honda’s focus on efficiency, further underlined by the introduction of a newly developed integrated high-power electric motor, which achieves an efficiency of up to 97.5 per cent. The motor controller complements this with an even higher efficiency of 98.5 per cent.
Furthermore, the P7’s intelligent heat pump system enhances its cold-weather capabilities. Efficiency improves by five per cent in colder climates, with the battery retaining over 86.8 per cent of its capacity even when exposed to temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
Safety and driver assistance technologies have not been overlooked. The P7 incorporates the latest version of Honda SENSING 360+, which now includes features such as Honda CoPilot Pro for highway navigation assistance, automated response to driver irregularities, and alerts to prevent collisions when opening doors. These innovations contribute to a more intuitive and reassuring driving environment, placing a strong emphasis on human-centric technology.
With the launch of the P7, GAC Honda has signalled its intent to play a more prominent role in the EV market, delivering a product that combines design flair, advanced technology, and performance into a single compelling package.
