BYD Launches Denza N9 Plug-in Hybrid SUV in China

BYD has officially launched its new flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, the Denza N9, in China, with prices ranging between 389,800 and 449,800 yuan (approximately RM253,370 to RM292,370). The SUV introduces BYD’s cutting-edge e3 “Yisanfang” technology, which enhances manoeuvrability with features such as crab walking, tank turns, and stability control at speeds of up to 180 km/h in the event of a tyre burst.

The Denza N9 is available in four exterior colours—black, silver, grey, and green. It measures 5,258 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width, and 1,830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. A panoramic sunroof, spanning 3.2 square meters, extends across all three rows, offering an open and spacious cabin experience.

Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the N9 is powered by a tri-motor system that includes a front AC asynchronous motor and two rear permanent magnet synchronous motors. The front motor delivers 268hp and 315Nm of torque, while the rear motor produces 322hp and 360Nm of torque. This system is paired with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 204hp and 325Nm of torque. The SUV is equipped with a 46.9 kWh Blade battery pack, which provides a pure electric range of 202km under the CLTC cycle and a combined range of 1,302 km. With a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds, the Denza N9 is one of the quickest SUVs in its segment. The vehicle has a minimum turning radius of 4.65 metres, while fast charging capabilities enable a 30% to 80% charge in just 19 minutes.

Inside, the Denza N9 offers a choice of two interior colour schemes—grey and white. It features a 2+2+2 six-seater layout designed to maximise space and practicality. The cabin accommodates up to six passengers while providing ample storage, including space for four 20-inch standard suitcases, two children’s trolley cases, and six backpacks. The seating configuration also allows for the horizontal placement of a 47-inch golf bag.

The second-row seats support 14-way electric adjustments and come equipped with small tables, 50W wireless charging, and ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The third-row seats offer six-way electric adjustments along with heating. Rear passengers also benefit from an 11-litre refrigerator that provides both cooling and warming functions.

The cockpit is centred around BYD’s DiLink 150 system, which features a 17.3-inch 2.5K floating central control screen, a 13.2-inch 2.5K co-pilot display, and a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD). The top-tier variant includes an additional 13.2-inch 2.5K LCD instrument panel. The infotainment system is further enhanced by a 26-speaker Devialet sound system, a 17.3-inch rear ceiling screen, mobile phone remote control capabilities, an AI voice assistant, and a built-in Karaoke mode.

For drone enthusiasts, BYD has partnered with DJI to develop the Lingyuan intelligent vehicle-mounted drone system, which is available as an optional feature.

On the technology front, the Denza N9 is equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” B (DiPilot 300) advanced driving assistance system. The system is powered by a combination of a 128-line lidar, five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 14 cameras. Its capabilities include automatic parking assistance for vertical, lateral, and diagonal parking spaces, remote control parking, emergency lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring. Additionally, the automatic emergency braking system operates effectively at speeds of up to 110 km/h under nighttime driving conditions.

The launch of the Denza N9 follows BYD’s recent introduction of the Denza D9, a premium electric MPV in Malaysia, priced between RM259,000 and RM309,000. While the N9 is currently exclusive to the Chinese market, its advanced technology and high-performance capabilities may generate interest in international markets in the near future.
