Michelin Malaysia has introduced the Michelin Primacy 5 for passenger cars and crossovers of all engine types, emphasising its tagline, “Confidence Made to Last.” As a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Michelin Primacy 4, this new model incorporates key innovations that enhance performance while reducing environmental impact.
Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, highlighted the tyre’s improved durability and efficiency, particularly in response to the increasing demands of modern vehicles, including hybrid and electric models. He explained that these vehicles exert greater stress on tyres due to their higher horsepower and weight, necessitating a tyre that delivers extended wear life, reduced rolling resistance, and sustained wet grip performance.
Michelin’s commitment to innovation is evident in the Primacy 5, which has been specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of Malaysian motorists. With a growing preference for larger SUVs and electric vehicles in the region, Dangrojana emphasised that the new tyre offers superior value by providing enhanced safety, longevity, and a quieter driving experience.
The Michelin Primacy 5 introduces several advancements, including:
- Premium Comfort Drive – A newly designed tread pattern, featuring Michelin Silent Rib Gen-3 technology, minimizes vibrations and road noise, ensuring a smoother and quieter ride.
- Excellent Longevity – The tyre delivers 24% more mileage compared to other premium brands, thanks to a 10% increase in void ratio and optimized lateral groove edges. Its MaxTouch technology evenly distributes acceleration, braking, and cornering forces, prolonging tread life without sacrificing safety.
- Enhanced Wet Grip Performance – With braking distances up to 8% shorter when new and 13% shorter when worn compared to competitors, the tyre incorporates Functional Elastomers 3.0, Michelin EverGrip, and MICHELIN EverTread Technologies to optimize water evacuation and improve wet-road handling.
- EV Compatibility – A high-performance rubber compound reduces rolling resistance by 13%, improving energy efficiency and extending the range of electric vehicles.
Beyond its improvements in safety, comfort, and durability, the Michelin Primacy 5 aligns with Michelin’s “All Sustainable” strategy. The tyre’s rolling resistance is reduced by 5%, and its longevity increased by 18%, allowing it to be used until the legal tread depth, thereby generating less waste. Its overall environmental footprint has been reduced by 6%.
Now available across Malaysia, the Michelin Primacy 5 comes in 25 sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches, with premium 18-inch and above models featuring next-level aesthetic sidewalls with a full-ring velvet line. Prices start from RM477 and go up to RM1,026.
