Former F1 World Champion Stuck in Airport Toilet

Former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve found himself in an unusual predicament at Milan’s Malpensa Airport while en route to Australia for the season opener. The 1997 title winner was trapped inside a toilet cubicle for 30 minutes before resorting to kicking down the door to escape.

Villeneuve shared the bizarre ordeal with his followers on Instagram, posting a picture of himself looking unimpressed inside the grey cubicle. He revealed that he had been stuck for 20 minutes while airport security struggled to free him. With a touch of sarcasm, he described the experience as “very impressive” and noted that the toilet flushed every 30 seconds, making for an unpleasant wait.

During his time inside, Villeneuve engaged with commenters, maintaining his sense of humor about the situation. When asked if it was okay to laugh, he reassured followers that it was. Responding to a comment comparing the experience to his early days with British American Racing (BAR), he quipped that the team “broke down faster” and never left him stranded for so long. Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel jokingly asked if he had any idea who had locked him in, to which Villeneuve replied with a laugh, questioning how many enemies he had before the first Grand Prix.

While he took the situation lightly, Villeneuve also reflected on the seriousness of being trapped, imagining how challenging it would be for a child or someone unable to speak Italian. In the end, rather than waiting for a solution, he took matters into his own hands. He forced the door open with a kick, causing part of the ceiling to fall on his head. Sharing a picture of the broken cubicle, he described the incident as an eventful start to his journey to Australia, adding with humor that he was now “ready to get Down Under.”
