Kia Unveils Concept EV2: A Vision for the Future of Urban Electric Mobility

Kia has introduced the Concept EV2, a groundbreaking B-segment all-electric SUV, at its EV Day event in Barcelona. Designed to redefine urban mobility, the Concept EV2 embodies innovation, adventure, and sustainability while incorporating advanced technology and a versatile interior layout.

The Concept EV2 showcases Kia’s ambition to push the boundaries of electric vehicle (EV) design. The vehicle integrates connected technology, a spacious multi-configurable interior, and innovative rear-hinged back doors. This design not only enhances accessibility but also provides users with an opportunity to experience an active urban lifestyle while seamlessly engaging with city environments.

Kia President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, emphasised that the Concept EV2 represents a major advancement in urban mobility. He stated that the company set out to create a vehicle that surpasses expectations by offering cutting-edge technology and functionality beyond its compact size. The concept serves as a preview of Kia’s future vision, aiming to bring a new level of sophistication and usability to urban drivers while making EVs more accessible to the masses.

A Bold and Dynamic Exterior

The Concept EV2 features a distinctive and confident exterior that aligns with Kia’s evolving EV lineup. The front fascia is framed by vertical daytime running lights (DRLs), contributing to a modern and dynamic aesthetic. Kia’s Star Map signature lighting integrates an open lamp design without cover glass, creating a visually striking effect.

Despite its compact size, the Concept EV2 presents a strong, upright stance, exuding a sense of boldness and refinement. The vehicle’s rugged bumpers and lower graphic elements enhance its adventurous personality while maintaining a premium appeal.

From the side, the SUV’s profile blends upscale styling with a solid and stable presence. The cabin is designed for spaciousness, while the upright front profile seamlessly transitions into the taut, well-structured rear section. A prominent shoulder line adds to the vehicle’s technical sophistication, while robust fenders contrast with the geometric glass and wheel arches, reinforcing its dynamic and urban-focused character.

A Sustainable and Versatile Interior

Inside, the Concept EV2 offers a flexible and vibrant cabin designed with sustainable materials. Despite being Kia’s smallest EV to date, the interior is designed to maximise space and functionality, providing a sanctuary from the fast-paced city environment.

The EV2 incorporates an adaptable second-row seat that folds away to create additional space. The interior is further enhanced by premium features typically found in larger vehicles, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging capabilities and Over-the-Air (OTA) update functionality.

Diagonal LED lighting on the front door panels creates a striking contrast between the front and rear sections of the cabin. This effect is complemented by a triangular-pattern lighting system and a unique LED dashboard animation, which work together to foster a relaxing and modern atmosphere.

A standout design element in the cabin is the metal surface running along the lower dashboard, which integrates a wireless charger and a power outlet, offering tri-functional versatility. Drawing from Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, the interior merges practicality with emotion, creating a space that is both comfortable and functional.

One of the key innovations of the Concept EV2 is its multi-configurable seating arrangement. The second-row seats can be folded up, allowing the front-row seats to slide back for an expansive, lounge-like space when the vehicle is parked. This feature provides users with the flexibility to relax, stretch out, or even sit on the flat floor for activities such as dining inside the vehicle.

The absence of a central pillar and the inclusion of rear-hinged back doors create a large, open entryway that enhances accessibility. This design also facilitates an easy connection with the surrounding environment, making it convenient for users to step in and out of the vehicle seamlessly.

Further adding to the functionality, the Concept EV2 features pop-up sliding luggage dividers and securing straps to accommodate various cargo sizes. Kia’s message lighting technology allows occupants to display text messages through the vehicle’s windows, enabling communication with pedestrians and other road users.

For an enhanced audio experience, the Concept EV2 is equipped with removable, portable triangular speakers mounted in the door trim. These can be repositioned within the vehicle or taken outside, making them perfect for use at charging stations or outdoor gatherings.

Production and Market Launch

Kia has confirmed that the production version of the EV2 is set to launch in Europe and other regions in 2026. With its forward-thinking design and urban-centric innovations, the Concept EV2 signals Kia’s commitment to shaping the future of electric mobility while making EV technology more accessible to a wider audience.
