Volvo Car Malaysia Renames C40 Recharge to EC40, Enhances Range and Features

Volvo Car Malaysia has officially rebranded the Volvo C40 Recharge as the Volvo EC40, reflecting the company’s move toward a more streamlined model naming strategy. The fully electric crossover SUV, which was first introduced in December 2022, now offers an extended range of 554km and debuts in a new Cloud Blue exterior colour.

The decision to rename the vehicle aligns with Volvo’s commitment to enhancing transparency in its product lineup. According to Volvo Car Malaysia, the EC40 retains all the standout features of its predecessor while improving efficiency and offering customers greater clarity in model identification.

Equipped with an 82kWh battery pack, the EC40 supports 200kW DC fast charging, allowing it to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes. The vehicle features advanced pixel headlights that automatically adjust brightness for optimized visibility, ensuring a safer and more comfortable driving experience. Additionally, customers will continue to benefit from five years of complimentary Digital Services, which include access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store, and remote functions via the Volvo Cars App. A five-year Volvo Service Plan (VSP) is also included, covering scheduled maintenance at authorized service centers.

The EC40 is powered by a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, featuring a second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor. Delivering 300kW of power, the vehicle offers dynamic performance with an emphasis on rear-wheel drive responsiveness, providing an engaging driving experience.

Volvo Car Malaysia’s Sales Director, Chris Tan, emphasised that the introduction of the renamed EC40 is part of a broader strategy to expand the company’s electric vehicle lineup. He highlighted that Volvo aims to cater to a diverse range of customer needs, from spacious seven-seater SUVs for families to compact five-seater ideal for urban commuting. The evolving model range reflects Volvo’s commitment to offering solutions for different lifestyles and preferences.

The introduction of the Volvo EC40 is a key step in the company’s ongoing electrification transformation. In 2024, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid models accounted for 83 percent of Volvo’s total retail sales, marking a significant increase from 71 percent in the previous year. To date, Volvo Car Malaysia has introduced three fully electric models—the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, Volvo EX30, and now the Volvo EC40. The company’s much-anticipated flagship Volvo EX90 is set to launch later this year, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility.

The Volvo EC40 is priced at RM288,888, maintaining the same price point as its predecessor. Customers can take advantage of flexible financing options through Volvo Car Financial Services, which offers attractive lower interest rates. Additionally, those who book the EC40 before March 31, 2025, will receive a complimentary wall box voucher worth RM5,000.

With its updated range, refreshed design, and continued focus on electrification, the Volvo EC40 stands as a key player in Volvo’s mission to lead the premium EV market in Malaysia.
