Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad (Allianz General) and BikesRepublic.com partnered to introduce the first-ever Allianz-BikesRepublic.com Malaysian Motorcycle of the Year (MMOTY) Awards. The inaugural event was recently held at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Subang, setting the stage for what is expected to become an annual recognition of the best motorcycles and key industry players in Malaysia.
Allianz General served as the title sponsor for the MMOTY Awards, marking its expansion into motorcycle industry recognition after more than a decade of involvement in the Vehicle of the Year (VOTY) Awards. According to Allianz General CEO Sean Wang, the event aims to honour motorcycle manufacturers’ achievements while providing riders with greater insights into the diverse range of motorcycles available in the market.
A total of 12 motorcycle awards and four industry awards were presented at the event. The most prestigious title, Malaysian Motorcycle of the Year Overall Champion, was awarded to the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX, which also secured victories in the Touring Bike of the Year and Malaysian Motorcycle Personality of the Year categories.
Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s Senior Manager of Sales and Marketing, Leong Kam Yew, expressed excitement over the unexpected win, stating that it was Suzuki’s first motorcycle award and that the recognition would likely boost sales while further strengthening the brand’s presence in Malaysia.
The MMOTY Awards were judged by a panel of distinguished experts and enthusiasts, including motoring journalist Keshy Dillon, who has over 18 years of experience in the industry, Datuk Captain Nik Huzlan, the organizer of the iconic Rimba Raid, and former actor and motorcycle enthusiast Jehan Miskin. Their expertise ensured a well-rounded evaluation process in determining the winners.
As part of its commitment to motorcycle riders, Allianz General also highlighted enhancements to its Allianz Motorcycle Plus insurance plan, which is specifically designed for motorcycles with engine capacities of 250cc and below. The plan now offers accident coverage of RM10,000 in the event of death or permanent disability due to a road accident, complimentary roadside assistance for up to a 50km roundtrip, and under the Rahmah Insurance Initiative, a one-time flood relief payout of RM1,000 for motorcycles damaged due to flooding. Allianz General currently holds a 14.6% market share, making it the number one general insurer in Malaysia.
