New BMW X3 Set for Launch in China with Exclusive Features and Extended Wheelbase

BMW is preparing to launch the latest version of its best-selling Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW X3, in China. The updated model, developed specifically for the Chinese market, is expected to arrive at dealerships within days and will officially go on sale later in February 2025.

The new BMW X3 will be available with two four-cylinder petrol engine options. The entry-level BMW X3 xDrive 25L Luxury delivers 190hp and 310Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 214km/h. A more powerful alternative, the BMW X3 xDrive 30L, is available in two equipment variants—Pioneering MSP and Exclusive MSP. This version generates 258hp with 400Nm of torque, achieving 0 to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 239km/h.

China represents a crucial market for BMW, with the outgoing X3 model emerging as the brand’s top global seller in 2023. In China alone, 156,000 units were delivered, accounting for nearly 40% of all BMW X model sales in the country. To cater to the growing demand for premium midsize SAVs, BMW has introduced a China-specific extended-wheelbase version of the X3, ensuring enhanced interior space and passenger comfort while maintaining the brand’s signature 50:50 weight distribution for balanced handling.

The wheelbase of the new BMW X3 has been extended by 111 millimetres, significantly improving ride stability and interior spaciousness. The rear compartment, in particular, benefits from increased knee and legroom, with the latter exceeding one meter. The overall length of the new model has grown by 126 millimetres to 4,865 millimetres, while the width has expanded by 25 millimetres to 1,920 millimetres, making it the largest vehicle in its segment. Despite its increased dimensions, the new X3 retains the dynamic proportions characteristic of BMW’s X models, with a long roofline flowing seamlessly into the rear.

Luxury and technology play a central role in the new BMW X3, with an extensive range of high-end features designed specifically for the Chinese market. The cabin is equipped with the latest BMW iDrive system, powered by BMW Operating System 9, offering a suite of digital services tailored to local preferences. The BMW Digital Premium package includes a variety of China-exclusive features, ensuring a highly personalized user experience.

The exterior design also incorporates elements unique to the Chinese market. Both variants come standard with BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting, which accentuates the signature kidney grille with a striking illuminated effect. The colour palette includes five premium metallic finishes, highlighted by a distinctive Frozen paint variant that enhances the X3’s commanding road presence.

BMW’s commitment to the Chinese market is further reflected in its local production strategy. The new BMW X3 will be manufactured at Plant Lydia in Shenyang, a state-of-the-art facility operated in partnership with BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA). This localized production approach optimizes logistics, reduces transportation emissions, and aligns with BMW’s sustainability initiatives. Despite the significant advancements in design, technology, and comfort, the new BMW X3 will be priced at the same level as its predecessor, ensuring strong market competitiveness.

With its refined luxury, enhanced driving dynamics, and China-focused innovations, the latest BMW X3 is set to strengthen its position as a leading choice in the premium midsize SAV segment.
