Volvo Announces Major 2026 Model Year Tech Upgrades Across Lineup

Volvo is set to introduce significant technological advancements for the 2026 model year, bringing an enhanced user experience and improved infotainment performance to several models. The updates will apply to the XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, and V90 Cross Country, with additional upgrades for the upcoming XC90.

Next-Generation Volvo Car UX for a Safer, More Intuitive Experience

Volvo’s latest user experience system, Volvo Car UX, will be integrated into all mentioned models. Already featured in the EX30, EX90, and new XC90, this system is designed to offer a more personalised, streamlined, and safer way to interact with the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Key enhancements include:

  • A redesigned home screen prioritizing frequently used apps like navigation, media, and phone.
  • A contextual bar that dynamically adjusts to display the most relevant functions.
  • An updated driver display with a larger, clearer navigation view for better visibility.

In addition to factory-installed systems in new models, millions of existing Volvo cars (built as early as 2020) will receive this upgrade via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, reinforcing Volvo’s commitment to continuous improvements.

Next-Generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform for Superior Performance

Volvo is also integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, bringing faster processing speeds and significantly improved graphics to its Google-based infotainment system. Performance enhancements include:

  • More than double the speed of the outgoing system.
  • 10 times faster graphics processing for a seamless, lag-free interface.
  • A more responsive system that reduces distractions and enhances driver safety.

This cutting-edge technology will also debut in the new XC90 SUV later this year.

Seamless Charging with Plug & Charge

For customers in Europe, the EX30, EX40, and EC40 will gain Plug & Charge, an effortless public charging system that eliminates the need for separate authentication or payment steps. This feature enables:

  • Automatic authentication and billing at compatible charging stations.
  • Hands-free payment processing via Google Maps or the Volvo Cars app.
  • A hassle-free charging experience—simply plug in and walk away.

A Bold Step Forward in Volvo’s Digital Transformation

Volvo’s latest technology rollout underscores its strategy to standardize the user experience across all platforms and powertrains while ensuring continuous improvements via OTA updates.

According to Erik Severinson, Volvo Cars’ Chief Product and Strategy Officer, this move aligns with the company’s vision of enhancing vehicle functionality over time.

More details on additional 2026 model year updates will be announced soon, ensuring that Volvo remains at the forefront of innovation, user experience, and digital connectivity.
