Hyundai Unveils Ioniq 5 N DK Edition: A Drifting Icon in the Making

Hyundai has once again captured the automotive world’s imagination with its latest creation, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition. Building on the success of the Ioniq 5 N, this special edition is tailored specifically for drifting enthusiasts and pays homage to one of the most legendary figures in motorsport, Keiichi Tsuchiya, the “Drift King.”

A Tribute to the Drift King

The DK Edition is named in honour of Keiichi Tsuchiya, a pioneer in drifting and a revered figure in the Japanese racing scene. Tsuchiya’s influence extends beyond the car’s name; he was deeply involved in the development and tuning of the DK Edition, ensuring it meets the high standards of professional drift performance.

Engineering Excellence for Drifting

The Ioniq 5 N DK Edition features several enhancements designed to optimize its drifting capabilities:

  • Enhanced Braking System: Six-piston monoblock calipers paired with brake pads offering 54% more surface coverage for superior stopping power.
  • Lowered Suspension: Custom H&R lowering springs reduce the centre of gravity, improving stability and handling during aggressive manoeuvres.
  • Unique Wheels: 21-inch wheels with a sawtooth barrel structure enhance tyre grip during high-speed spins.

Aerodynamic Upgrades and Distinctive Design

Hyundai has outfitted the DK Edition with a suite of carbon-fibre aerodynamic enhancements, including a splitter, side skirts, and a rear wing. These modifications provide increased downforce, improving both grip and high-speed stability. The exterior is completed with green accents, inspired by Tsuchiya’s iconic green racing suit, giving the car a distinctive and purposeful look.

Release Details

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is slated for release in Korea and Japan in the first half of 2025. Hyundai has yet to disclose pricing or production numbers, and unfortunately, this niche, special-edition vehicle is unlikely to make its way to North American markets.

With the DK Edition, Hyundai not only pays tribute to the art of drifting but also sets a new benchmark for high-performance electric vehicles, combining innovation with motorsport heritage.
