Local Man Files False Report to Claim Insurance for Stolen Luxury Car

A man in his 40s is under investigation for filing a false police report, claiming his luxury car was stolen, in an attempt to secure an insurance payout. The incident occurred in Rembau and was uncovered by the local authorities after thorough inquiries.

According to Superintendent Shaik Abd Kadir Shaik Mohamed, Rembau District Police Chief, the man reported the alleged theft at 3:15 am on Saturday. He claimed he had been robbed by two unknown individuals at approximately 10:30 pm on Friday, who purportedly fled with his Audi and other personal belongings.

The police initially investigated the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which pertains to gang robbery. However, inconsistencies in the man’s account during questioning led investigators to conclude that the report was fabricated.

“It was discovered that the reported incident did not occur. The individual made the false claim to pursue an insurance payout for the alleged loss of his vehicle,” Superintendent Shaik Abd Kadir stated in a press release.

The case is now being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which deals with providing false information to public servants. Filing a false report is a criminal offence that can lead to significant legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment.

The authorities remind the public that filing false reports not only wastes police resources but also undermines the integrity of genuine investigations. Individuals are urged to act responsibly and abide by the law to avoid severe penalties.
