Proton Partners with MY Clean Beach for Environmental Conservation

In a significant step towards environmental conservation, Proton recently collaborated with local environmental NGO MY Clean Beach for a beach-cleaning initiative at Pantai Batu Laut in Tanjong Sepat. Located along the Straits of Malacca, the picturesque beach lies less than two hours from Kuala Lumpur and is known for its mangrove swamps and pristine waters.

The event saw the participation of 42 volunteers from Proton’s management team, members of Kelab Proton Edar, and MY Clean Beach. Together, they focused on cleaning the mangrove and local visitor areas of the beach, successfully removing 338.5 kilograms of waste. The waste collected included:

  • 263.95 kg of general waste
  • 38 kg of large items
  • 19.5 kg of plastic
  • 14 kg of glass
  • 3.5 kg of tin/metal
  • 148 cigarette butts
  • 46 plastic straws

These efforts not only restored the natural beauty of Pantai Batu Laut but also contributed to a healthier ecosystem, benefiting marine life and coastal habitats.

This initiative highlighted the critical role of mangroves and coastal ecosystems in environmental conservation. It also aimed to educate the public on the importance of proper waste disposal and the growing issue of plastic pollution.

“By removing waste from Pantai Batu Laut, Proton has helped contribute to healthier ecosystems while fostering unity among our employees. As we expand our product line to include more hybrid and EV models, it is imperative that our operations and activities reflect our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar.

The collaboration underscores the importance of corporate responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. Proton’s engagement in this CSR activity reflects its dedication to fostering teamwork and promoting environmental stewardship among employees and the community.

MY Clean Beach, with its tagline “My beach is local, and I own it. It’s part of me and my country,” has been a driving force in marine conservation. The NGO has already removed over 16,817.8 kilograms of waste, engaged 3,677 volunteers, and planted 485 trees.

This joint effort between Proton and MY Clean Beach exemplifies how corporations and NGOs can work together to combat pollution, raise awareness, and ensure a sustainable future for Malaysia’s coastal regions.
