Jaecoo J5 Launches with Pet-Focused Features and Outdoor Capabilities – Set for Malaysia Launch in 2025

The Jaecoo J5, a compact SUV, made its debut at the 2024 Omoda Jaecoo International User Summit in Wuhu, China. Positioned as the smaller sibling to the Jaecoo J7, it retains much of the J7’s design elements and is tailored for ‘new urban youths’ with a strong emphasis on pet-friendliness.

Key Features:
  • Pet-Friendly Design: The J5 includes special features to accommodate pets, such as extended seats designed for pet comfort and safety, and an advanced filtration system to block pet hair, keeping the cabin air fresh. It also offers an intelligent temperature control system and an antibacterial health device to inhibit bacteria growth, ensuring a healthier environment for both pets and passengers.
  • Pet Accessories: Jaecoo will provide accessories like pet-feeding devices and boarding steps for small pets, reinforcing the J5’s appeal to pet owners.

Outdoor-Friendly Capabilities:
  • For outdoor enthusiasts, the Jaecoo J5 offers 1,250kg of towing capacity and a 75kg roof rack. The vehicle comes equipped with features like contact charging ports, trunk hooks, and multi-purpose camping lights, transforming it into a versatile companion for outdoor adventures.
  • The 1.45 sqm panoramic sunroof is the largest in its class, adding to the vehicle’s appeal for those who enjoy the outdoors. Inside, the 13.2-inch infotainment screen ensures an immersive digital experience.

Design:
  • The J5 mirrors the square-cut design of the J7, featuring a broad front grille with vertical lines. However, unlike the J7, the top-tier lights on the J5 are actual headlamps, not just LED DRLs. The SUV’s sides feature a two-tone design with minimal surfacing, though the door handles are not flush as seen in more premium designs. Its rear spoiler also maintains a slightly rugged look, deviating from a completely smooth appearance.

Potential Powertrain:

While Jaecoo has not confirmed the powertrain specifics for the J5, it is likely to share the 1.6L turbo-four engine found in the J7, producing 194hp and 290Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Malaysia Launch:

The Jaecoo J5 is slated for launch in Malaysia in Q4 2025. It will be part of the Jaecoo lineup alongside the J7, which is locally assembled (CKD) at Chery’s plant in Shah Alam.
