Jaecoo J7 PHEV Ultra-Long-Range Test: Over 1,300km on a Single Charge and a Tank of Fuel

Malaysia is one of seven countries participating in a unique test of the Jaecoo J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), which involved an ultra-long-range driving marathon from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China, covering over 1,300km on a single tank of fuel and a fully charged battery. Alongside Malaysia, participants from Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom took part in this journey, aimed at demonstrating the vehicle’s impressive range and efficiency without needing to recharge during the trip.

Range and Performance

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts a pure electric range of 106km (NEDC) and is equipped with Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) Technology. During the marathon, it exceeded its expected range, achieving 125.2 km in pure-electric mode—19.2 km more than its specifications. Additionally, the J7 PHEV features fuel consumption of just 5.99 litres per 100 km in a power-depleted state, underscoring its energy efficiency and capability to combat range anxiety in drivers.

Malaysian Launch and Features

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is set to officially launch in Malaysia by the end of 2024, and it will be available in two variants:

All-Wheel Drive (AWD): Features seven driving modes, including Economy, Sport, and Off-Road options, tailored for various terrains like sand, mud, and snow.
Two-Wheel Drive (2WD): Offers three driving modes: Standard, Sport, and Economy.

Key features of the J7 PHEV include an 18.3 kW battery, 60-litre fuel tank, and the ability to generate 525Nm of torque. The vehicle is also equipped with a DC charger supporting up to 40 kW and external output capability, allowing users to power appliances like projectors and kettles—ideal for outdoor adventures.

Preview Event and Launch

Interested customers in Malaysia can get a first look at the Jaecoo J7 PHEV during a preview event from 23 to 27 October 2024, at Sunway Pyramid, prior to its official launch at the year’s end. Registrations of interest will be open at the event, with deliveries expected to start by February 2025.

The J7 PHEV offers customisable options in colors, rim styles, and interior upgrades, staying true to the brand’s slogan, “From Classic, Beyond Classic.”
