The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Perlis recently seized three vehicles, including a Porsche valued at nearly RM3 million, due to violations of the Customs Duty (Exemption) Order 2017.
These cars had exceeded the 90-day stay limit for vehicles brought from Duty-Free Islands like Langkawi and Labuan into Peninsular Malaysia.
According to Ismail Hashim, JKDM Perlis Director, the vehicles were surrendered voluntarily by the owners after realizing they had breached the 90-day limit set under Item 14 of the exemption order.
Aside from the luxury Porsche, the other two vehicles seized were a Mazda SKYACTIV worth RM128,500 and a Toyota Camry worth RM141,570.
The confiscations were carried out between September 26 and October 1 last year. Hashim explained that these rules aim to prevent long-term stays of such vehicles on the mainland, which could be viewed as a form of tax evasion.
Violations of this regulation fall under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
