Nissan Celebrates 40 Years of NISMO Performance Excellence

Nissan marks the 40th anniversary of NISMO, the company’s renowned in-house tuning, motorsports, and performance division. Established on 17th September 1984 as Nissan Motorsport International Co. Limited, NISMO has become synonymous with high performance both on the racetrack and on public roads. Over the past four decades, NISMO has embodied Nissan’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance and engineering.

Originally based in Omori, Tokyo, NISMO has played a pivotal role in creating some of Nissan’s most exhilarating vehicles and driving the brand’s motorsports ambitions. The company’s guiding principle of “Track to road” reflects its mission to take lessons from the racetrack and apply them to everyday road cars, offering customers a thrilling driving experience with a strong foundation in motorsport technology.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary, Nissan’s Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama is hosting a special exhibition featuring a stunning array of NISMO road models and racing legends. Highlights include the ultra-rare NISMO 270R and the revered NISMO 400R, alongside iconic track machines like the Nissan R390 GT1, which secured a third-place finish at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona-winning Nissan R91CP, and the Calsonic Skyline GT-R Group A from the Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC).

In addition to these historic models, the exhibition also showcases vehicles from NISMO’s current Japan domestic line-up, including the newly launched Ariya NISMO, AURA NISMO, and Fairlady Z NISMO. The exhibition runs until Tuesday, 15th October 2024, giving fans the opportunity to witness the evolution of NISMO’s high-performance legacy.

The celebration of NISMO’s 40th anniversary will culminate with the 2024 NISMO Festival, set to take place on December 1 at Fuji International Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture. This year’s festival is dedicated to NISMO’s rich heritage, showcasing the brand’s racing achievements and the evolution of its high-performance road cars. Fans of NISMO can expect a day filled with nostalgia, speed, and a glimpse into the future of the brand.

As NISMO celebrates its 40th year, Nissan continues to build on its storied legacy of performance, proving that the passion for speed, innovation, and precision engineering remains as strong as ever.
