Volvo Teases Updated XC90 Crossover for “90/90” Day

Volvo has announced plans to unveil the updated XC90 crossover on September 4th, a day the automaker is dubbing “90/90” day. The event will also serve as a significant milestone in the ongoing launch of Volvo’s all-electric EX90 model, but the company hinted that more surprises may be in store.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser image depicting what appears to be the hoods of the EX90 and XC90, showcasing minor visual distinctions, particularly in the hood creases and headlight details. Notably, the updated XC90 is expected to feature a refreshed take on Volvo’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, though further details remain speculative.

This update is likely to be the last major refresh for the XC90 before it is gradually phased out in favour of the EX90. Introduced as Volvo’s next-gen electric SUV, the EX90 marks the company’s shift toward a fully electric future, first hinted at when the model was unveiled in 2022.

Volvo’s cryptic reference to additional surprises has fuelled curiosity. Speculation suggests that the surprises may include new Polestar Engineered performance variants of existing Volvo models, continuing the trend seen in previous crossover releases.

More details will be revealed on September 4th as Volvo celebrates the next chapter for both the XC90 and EX90.
