BMW is launching a new iteration of its popular X3 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) exclusively for the Chinese market, featuring a longer wheelbase and enhanced interior comfort. This new version, the BMW X3 25L xDrive and BMW X3 30L xDrive, marks the brand’s commitment to catering specifically to the preferences of Chinese consumers.
The extended wheelbase of the new X3 models, increased by 110mm to 2,975mm, significantly enhances rear-seat legroom, providing a more comfortable experience for passengers. The updated BMW X3 boasts an exterior length of 4,865mm and a width of 1,920mm, making it the largest in its competitive segment. The new design incorporates the brand’s latest styling cues with a sleek roofline and modern proportions that reflect BMW’s current design language.
Inside, the BMW X3 offers a luxurious environment with the latest BMW iDrive system based on the BMW Operating System 9. This system includes digital services tailored specifically for the Chinese market. The interior features a BMW Curved Display, BMW Interaction Bar, and a steering wheel with a flattened lower rim. High-quality materials, such as Veganza sports seats and optional “Crafted Clarity” glass applications, contribute to a premium feel. The panoramic glass roof with optional Skylounge lighting adds to the ambience, providing a sophisticated touch to the vehicle’s interior.
Both the BMW X3 25L xDrive and X3 30L xDrive are powered by advanced four-cylinder engines. The 25L xDrive variant produces 190hp with a torque of 310Nm, while the 30L xDrive version offers 258hp and 400Nm of torque. Both models are equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, ensuring optimal performance and handling.
Developed in close collaboration between BMW Group headquarters in Munich and the Shenyang production facility, these models reflect a deep understanding of Chinese market demands. Produced at the Lydia plant in Shenyang—BMW Brilliance Automotive’s latest manufacturing site—the new BMW X3 continues the brand’s tradition of high-quality, efficient, and environmentally friendly production processes.
The new BMW X3 builds on the success of its predecessor, which was the best-selling BMW model globally in 2023. In China, the X3 has been a significant contributor to BMW’s sales, with approximately 156,000 units delivered last year, accounting for around 40 percent of all BMW X model sales in the region.
The fourth-generation BMW X3, with its extended wheelbase and enhanced features, is poised to strengthen BMW’s position in the Chinese automotive market. By catering specifically to local preferences and integrating advanced technologies, BMW aims to continue its success in the world’s largest automotive market, offering a vehicle that combines luxury, comfort, and performance.
