BMW Group Receives the Car Connectivity Consortium Digital Key Certificate

The BMW Group has become the first automotive manufacturer to receive the CCC Digital Key certificate from the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), marking a significant milestone in digital vehicle access. This certification is based on the highest security and interoperability standards set by the CCC, confirming that the BMW Digital Key meets these rigorous requirements.

Leading the Way in Digital Key Technology

The Car Connectivity Consortium is a cross-industry organisation dedicated to advancing vehicle connectivity with intelligent mobile devices. Since joining the consortium in 2017, the BMW Group has played a leading role in developing and establishing cross-industry technologies and safety standards. The CCC’s membership includes numerous automotive manufacturers, major smartphone manufacturers, tier-one automotive suppliers, semiconductor manufacturers, and security product providers.

Innovation and Convenience in Vehicle Access

Since 2018, BMW Group customers have enjoyed the convenience of unlocking, locking, and starting their vehicles using the BMW Digital Key on their smartphones via Near Field Communication (NFC). The 2021 launch of the BMW iX introduced the BMW Digital Key Plus, the world’s first application of ultra-wideband technology (UWB) for digital vehicle access. The Digital Key Plus enhances security and convenience, allowing customers to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles without taking out their smartphones. This technology has now been extended to the BMW compact class and the new MINI family.

Sharing and Global Standards

BMW’s digital key can be shared with friends and family across platforms using conventional messenger services. The specification for UWB-based digital vehicle access, developed by BMW and its partners, has been established as a global standard for the automotive industry through the CCC. The BMW Group remains committed to being a driving force in digital vehicle access, continuously innovating to enhance the customer experience.

The CCC Digital Key certification marks a significant achievement for the BMW Group, highlighting its leadership in digital vehicle access technology. With a focus on security, interoperability, and customer convenience, BMW continues to set the standard for innovative vehicle access solutions.
