In a parliamentary session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, an opposition Member of Parliament representing PN-Kubang Kerian, has called upon the government to eliminate the tolls at Gombak and Karak to alleviate congestion on the East Coast Expressway (LPT), as reported by NST.
Highlighting the age of the Gombak toll, which is among the oldest in the nation, Tuan Ibrahim emphasized the importance of abolishing it first. He suggested that to alleviate the burden on LPT users, only two entry and exit points should be utilized instead of the current four toll plazas.
Expressing his concerns, Tuan Ibrahim stated that the presence of toll plazas at Gombak and Karak was unnecessary and contributed to traffic slowdowns and congestion along the expressway. He asserted his belief that tolls across the country should be abolished to address these issues.
Additionally, Tuan Ibrahim raised another issue regarding the inadequate number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide. Citing government data from August 2023, which revealed only 1,246 charging stations along the highway network, he expressed concerns, particularly regarding the scarcity of charging stations along the LPT. This shortage poses a significant challenge for EV owners, hindering the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and the transition to sustainable transportation.
