Back in March of this year, Kia revealed its 2024 EV9 model and it is packed with tons of features including level-three autonomy and clever aerodynamics that reduce drag and thus increase range.
Kia America made an announcement regarding the upcoming 2024 Kia EV9, their premier three-row SUV electric vehicle (EV). This new model, positioned as the brand’s flagship in the EV segment, will begin at a competitive base price of $54,900 (RM258,469). The introductory variant, the EV9 Light RWD, boasts essential features, including DC fast-charging capability, ample seating for up to seven passengers, and SynTex leather-trimmed seats.
Moreover, it rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and offers an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat equipped with heating and ventilation. The heart of the EV9 lies in its seamless permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, delivering a robust performance with 215hp and 349Nm of torque.
Steven Center, EVP & COO, Kia America, emphasized the significance of striking the right pricing balance for the EV9. The brand aims to send a strong message to the industry that a well-equipped three-row SUV EV can be priced competitively without compromising on essential features. The EV9 caters to the demands of the modern EV-savvy consumer, offering a blend of standard features, fast-charging capability, and cutting-edge technology. The company is eagerly anticipating the EV9’s market launch, scheduled for later this year.
The anticipated launch of the Kia EV9 is set for the fourth quarter, and it is initially slated for production in South Korea. However, production is scheduled to shift to Kia’s advanced facility in West Point, Georgia, in 2024. The pricing details for the Light Long Range, Wind, Land, and GT-Line variants will be announced at a later date.
The design of the all-electric EV9 exudes a rugged yet sophisticated appearance befitting a flagship SUV. With an emphasis on short overhangs and a spacious 122.0-inch wheelbase, the EV9 stands out with its boxy, triangular design language. The length of the GT-Line variant stands at 197.4 inches (197.2 inches for other trims), slightly surpassing the Telluride SUV in length. The vehicle’s height and width are comparable, making it a well-proportioned SUV. Despite its boxy shape, the EV9 maintains a competitive coefficient of drag at 0.28, aligning with luxury SUV EVs.
Inside, the driver’s cockpit showcases a distinctive elliptical-shaped dash, designed to create a floating effect. This aesthetic appeal is combined with a wide panoramic display housing dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5.0-inch HVAC screen for a modern, sleek look. The Kia EV9 comes equipped with the next-generation Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, offering faster processing and higher fidelity for infotainment. Additionally, it includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, and an ultramodern Digital Key 2 feature, allowing the use of smart devices or smart cards as virtual vehicle keys.
The EV9 is equipped with an array of safety features, including the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA-2) system, which has been enhanced to detect and prevent collisions in various circumstances. With 20 standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features, the EV9 prioritises safety, providing a secure driving experience.
Closer to home, the starting price of the all-new Kia Niro EV is RM255,888.00 and it comes with a 5-Years Manufacturer Warranty (or 150,000km), whichever comes first. Additionally, it has a 160,000-kilometer mileage cap and an 8-year warranty on the high-voltage battery pack.
