Avatr, the Chinese automotive joint venture involving Changan, CATL, and Huawei, introduced its second electric vehicle (EV), the Avatr 12 (pronounced as “one-two”) in Munich, Germany. The first is the Avatr 11 (one-one). This move signifies the automaker’s entry into the European market.
This sleek four-door coupe, despite its sedan-like appearance, features a hatchback at the rear. Additionally, it boasts a unique “Halo Display” on the hood, which is a black panel LED display allowing the car to communicate with individuals outside of it, as stated by the company.
At the front, you’ll find a compact black grille and a pair of split LED daytime running lights forming a distinctive C-shaped pattern. Adjacent to these DRLs, Avatr positioned the primary headlights. Moving to the side, you’ll notice an intriguing profile that seems to strike a balance between a classic sedan and a Shooting Brake style. Standard features include pop-out door handles and a retractable rear spoiler, contributing to the cars’ unique design.
The Avatr 12 boasts dimensions of 5,020mm in length, 1,999mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. For reference, the Tesla Model 3 Highland has dimensions of 4,720mm in length, 2090mm in width and 1440mm in height.
The interior of the 12 boasts a wraparound leather-clad dashboard, complemented by a compact steering wheel featuring a flat top and flat bottom. This dashboard is equipped with a 35.4-inch panoramic widescreen display that spans both the instrument cluster and a passenger display. In addition, a pair of screens serves as digital mirrors, while a central, landscape-oriented infotainment screen takes care of controlling the majority of its functions.
It also comes with an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, Nappa leather and ambient lighting. In addition to its impressive features, the sedan is equipped with a powerful 27-speaker sound system, offers three nature-inspired fragrances, and features a digital rearview mirror for enhanced functionality.
Avatr has equipped the 12 with the Huawei Advanced Driving System 2.0 assistance suite, which incorporates a total of 29 advanced sensors, including 3 LiDARs.
Buyers have the choice of two powertrain options, both featuring CATL cell-to-pack ternary lithium-ion battery packs.
The rear-wheel drive variant is propelled by a 313hp electric motor, whereas the all-wheel drive version features a Huawei dual-motor configuration delivering a robust 578hp. Both models rely on a 94.5-kilowatt-hour battery, which provides an estimated driving range of between 650km and 700km. However, it’s worth noting that the specific test cycle used to determine these figures, whether it be WLTP or CLTC, is not specified.
As of now, pricing and availability details for the Avatr 12 have not been disclosed.
