The 2024 Dodge Durango makes an unexpected entrance just when it appeared that the heyday of the Hellcat V8 was coming to an end. This powerful SUV was first debuted in 2021 as a special edition trim level. It then made a comeback in 2023, and it is now a permanent trim level for yet another model year.
On September 1, Dodge issued a statement declaring the continuance of the Durango SRT Hellcat through 2024, thereby confirming this information. Interestingly, the 2023 model, which was practically the same as the first 2021 version, has not changed. This implies that the 6.2-litre Hellcat V8 engine in the 2024 Durango SRT Hellcat still generates a remarkable 710hp.
It’s important to note that other Dodge vehicles, like the Charger, Challenger, and Ram TRX, are gradually getting rid of this engine. The Ram TRX’s Hellcat-powered days are expected to end after a final manufacturing run of 4,000 cars, while the Hellcat era in Chargers and Challengers is expected to expire by the end of this year.
While the Hellcat V8 might be taking a step back, Dodge is keeping the Hemi engine alive and well. The 2024 Dodge Durango will continue to offer the Durango SRT 392, powered by a naturally aspirated 6.4-litre V8 engine, producing a robust 475hp. This model comes standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Additionally, the Durango R/T variant will also make a return, featuring a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine, which delivers 360hp.
For those looking for the base model, it will still come equipped with the dependable 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine, generating 295hp and 352Nm of torque. Dodge is maintaining a diverse lineup of powertrains to cater to a range of preferences and needs.
Dodge is enhancing the safety features across its entire 2024 Durango lineup. Blind spot monitoring is now included as a standard feature on all trims. Furthermore, the Trailer Tow Group option has been upgraded to include a trailer-detect feature, adding to the overall towing experience.
Buyers interested in the luxury-themed Durango Citadel, now have access to the Tow N Go Package, allowing for an impressive towing capacity of up to 3946kg.
The 2024 Durango offers a diverse range of trim levels, catering to various preferences and needs. The lineup includes the SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, SRT 392, and the range-topping SRT Hellcat.
As of now, there is no official information available regarding the production status of the 2024 Durango Hellcat, and pricing details have not been disclosed.
