Tesla To Build Diner With Superchargers In Los Angeles

Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, had previewed plans for a big new Supercharger site in Santa Monica in 2021. A unique drive-in cinema showing movie clips was supposed to be located here, along with a diner decorated in the style of the 1950s.

Despite Musk’s initial declaration, there has not been any significant advancement on this front over the last two years. While many Superchargers have been built throughout the United States during this time, none have the intended 1950s atmosphere. However, recently, things have changed.

According to information obtained by Teslarati, Tesla has received the green light from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to construct a diner and drive-in movie Supercharger in West Hollywood.

Situated at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, this facility will encompass 32 Supercharger stalls, a restaurant offering a range of food choices, rooftop seating, and two cinema screens where clips from famous films will be showcased. While Tesla owners won’t have the opportunity to view full-length movies, the rapid Supercharging capability, providing up to 321km of range in just 15 minutes, encourages shorter stays to avoid obstructing other electric vehicles in need of recharging.

The project’s application was submitted in November 2022, with the architectural work attributed to Stantec Architecture based in Chandler, Arizona, and the construction handled by PCL Construction Services from Glendale, California. Following approval by the City of Los Angeles, the permit was granted on July 18. Subsequently, the initial grading inspection was completed and approved by August 9.

The design of the Tesla Diner was briefly unveiled during the company’s Investor Day event in March, along with a sneak peek of what seems to be a wireless vehicle charging pad intended for home use. The visual representation showcased one screen directed toward the parking area where the chargers are positioned. The establishment, which comprises both a ground level and an upper-floor terrace, is characterized by a color scheme combining white and red elements.

With Tesla now officially in Malaysia, we think it is only necessary for one to be opened up here to expand the number of Superchargers.
