Kia introduced the brand-new Kia EV5 compact electric SUV at the Chengu Motor Show in China. As is common for Kia and Hyundai more thorough information about the company’s second zero-emission SUV won’t be made public until October, at the Electric Vehicle (EV) Day event the brand is hosting.
We currently have access to a formal image gallery as well as specific design details scattered throughout the press release. One such element is the addition of a mood lighting system with adjustable brightness levels in the new EV5. Users can choose from a stunning palette of 64 colours, including a group of 10 tones that Kia’s lighting experts have carefully selected.
The manufacturer claims that the mood lighting system, when activated, synchronises with the SUV’s various driving modes, modifies illumination in low-light conditions, and even alerts the driver if the car exceeds the permitted speed limit.
Additionally, Kia notes that consumers will have the option to customise the EV5’s interior to reflect the same level of elegance and taste that they would use when designing their houses. There are five seat patterns to choose from, including two woven varieties, one made specifically for the base model, and four colour possibilities.
The EV5 will come in nine glossy exterior colour options: Snow White Pearl, Clear White, Starry Night Black, Magma Red, Ivory Silver, Frost Blue, Iceberg Green, Tide Blue, and Shale Grey. In addition, a matte Ivory Silver variant will be offered.
The front of the SUV is similar to the EV5 concept car that was presented in March and features a wide grille, a large hood, and Kia’s characteristic three-dimensional “Signature Star Map Lighting” made of LED daytime running lights.
Insights from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have shown that the EV5 measures 181.7 inches in length, 73.8 inches in width, and 67.5 inches in height, with a wheelbase spanning 108.2 inches. The company has yet to release the official dimensions and technical specifications.
Additionally, according to The Korean Car Blog, the electric compact SUV will have a driving range of up to 598.5km thanks to a battery with an energy capacity of 82 kilowatt hours.
The Kia EV5 is anticipated to go on sale in China by the end of the year and will thereafter be released in other countries.
