Kia unveiled the brand-new Kia K3 as the successor to the Rio at a global premiere that took place in Mexico City. The moniker “K3” is usually used for the Cerato or Forte, however, it looks like the company is opting for something different now.
The 1.6-litre engine will be available for the Kia K3, and for the first time, a new sporty GT-Line grade with a 2.0-litre engine will also be offered. Six airbags, an ABS braking system, and an ESC electronic stabilisation programme are all standard safety equipment on the K3, while the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) capabilities are available as optional upgrades.
The new K3 combines advanced shapes, colours, and textures and as a result, it has a futuristic appearance. The Tiger Nose grille that has been reworked for a more purposeful appearance is still present on the front of the Kia K3. A double-line beltline that extends from the fender and black applications in the wheel arches give the sides a more powerful appearance.
The sleek rear design includes a thin line of LED lighting as a decorative element that joins the taillights, and the fastback-style roof drop adds refinement.
The new GT-Line variant has 17-inch wheels, two exhaust outlets, and a fascia with bigger air intakes for a sportier, more aggressive appearance. The Kia K3 has larger interior room for both front and back passengers thanks to its measurements of 4,545mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,475mm in height, together with a 2,670mm wheelbase. The trunk also has a huge 544-litre capacity.
The interior highlights include a freshly designed steering wheel inspired by the EV6, an integrated instrument cluster and panoramic multimedia screen and a horizontally striped basic yet contemporary and practical interior.
It has a 10.25″ central high-resolution display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, as well as the ease of linking up to two Bluetooth devices at once. Additionally, it provides front and back passengers with USB Type C connectors.
The digital instrument cluster, two-zone touch automated temperature control, and ambient lighting with up to 64 distinct colour options are the most noticeable features. Rear passengers also benefit from air vents that are specifically designed for them.
Both a six-speed manual and an automatic gearbox are compatible with the 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine’s 123PS. A 2.0-litre engine with 152PS is available in the GT-Line model, mated to a six-speed automated gearbox with paddle shifters. A 1.4-litre engine designed for export will also be made available.
Six airbags, an ABS braking system, and an ESC electronic stability programme are all standard equipment on the K3. A variety of ADAS technologies are also available, depending on the trim level chosen. Notable features include Front Collision Avoidance (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross-traffic Collision Avoidance (RCCA), and Driving Attention Warning (DAW).
Starting in the fourth quarter of the year, selected markets will have the brand-new Kia K3. Each country will make a timely announcement on the launch dates and model details. We don’t expect a Malaysian debut anytime soon.
