IndiGo Places Record-Breaking Order For 500 Airbus Planes

A 500-aircraft order valued at US$50 billion for the Airbus A320 Family has been confirmed by IndiGo, the largest airline in India by market share. With this world-record single purchase agreement, IndiGo has placed 1,330 orders with Airbus, making it the largest A320 customer in the world.

The historic purchase contract was sealed at the 2023 Paris Air Show.

One of the carriers with the fastest global growth is IndiGo. With 264 operating A320neo Family aircraft since the first one was delivered in March 2016, it now has one of the largest fleets in the world. In 2005, IndiGo placed its first order with Airbus. Since then, it has placed more orders, bringing its total order book to 830 A320 Family planes.

The A320neo has played a significant role in democratising air travel in India during the past 20 years. The A320neo has been at the forefront as an expanding economy and rising disposable incomes continue to bring millions of new travellers to a booming aviation market. It offers significant fuel savings and emissions reductions to improved aerodynamics and the latest jet engines.

The Airbus A320neo Family, which is valued at US$25 million, is the unchallenged leader in the single-aisle aircraft market with more than 8,700 orders from more than 130 customers. The A320neo Family’s status as the aircraft of choice for airlines around the world across all business models is further strengthened by this record order from IndiGo at the Paris Air Show in 2023.
