BMW Malaysia today presented the First-Ever BMW iX1, which combines the athletic flair of a BMW SAV with an all-electric motor intended to explore. The new all-electric edition of the best-selling BMW X1 will be available exclusively in M Sport trim.
Exterior
The First-Ever BMW iX1 has an expressive design with an upright front that exudes confidence. The road ahead is illuminated by slim wrap-around adaptive LED headlights with high beam help and new daytime running lights. The rear gets 3D taillights in a stylised L-shape with full-LED technology.
The new electric SAV’s signature square wheel arch shape generously flared in size, also expresses the trademark BMW X design language, complete with flush door handles that set it apart from all other powertrain types. The welcome lights with illuminated vehicle environment, front apron with air intake trimmings and simple automated tailboard operation come standard on the BMW iX1.
The BMW iX1 in M Sport trim highlights the dynamic appeal of the new electric SAV with features such as the kidney grille surround in Chrome and satinated Aluminium, and a distinctive design seen on the body-colored side sill and wheel arch trims, as well as front and rear aprons.
The M high-gloss Shadowline, M designation on both sides, and 19-inch M light alloy wheels in Double-spoke form 871M Bicolor are also variant-exclusive highlights.
Interior
The innovative, driver-oriented BMW Curved Display, which debuted in the all-electric BMW iX and BMW i4 models, is immediately noticeable in the iX1. The new, sophisticated display combination above the Luxury instrument panel features a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.7-inch control display, running the BMW Operating System 8 and outfitted with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard.
Drivers may operate all car functions using the central touchscreen operate Display, the buttons on the M Leather steering wheel with the Sport Boost shift paddle, or the Intelligent Personal Assistant, which is voice-controlled. A hand rest in front of the Control Display makes touchscreen operation even more convenient, while the new floating armrest frees up space in the centre console for extra storage areas while also housing the gear selector, volume control, and the My Modes button, which includes six modes for personalising the driving experience.
The anthracite M Headliner and standard slightly raised front seats provide excellent all-around sight and maximum driving pleasure. The front and rear footwell lighting add to the spacious feel.
Sport seats for the driver and front passenger are standard, as are a slew of comfort and convenience features, such as motorised adjustment with memory function for the driver. Drivers can benefit from automatic anti-dazzle capability thanks to the standard inclusion of interior and external mirror packages. Meanwhile, the dual-zone climate control ensures driver and passenger comfort.
The new electric SAV also includes BMW IconicSounds Electric, a fresh soundscape designed to add depth to the driving experience, as well as Acoustic Protection for Pedestrians. The BMW Heads-Up Display, Harman Kardon Hi-Fi sound system, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional with Augmented View are also standard features.
Power and Performance
Each axle is powered by a tiny electronically excited synchronous motor (EESM). These electric motors produce 313 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque when over-boost is enabled. The car goes from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds thanks to the electric all-wheel drive, and the top speed is electronically capped at 180km/h.
The first-generation BMW eDrive technology also incorporates charging hardware and high-voltage battery cells installed flat in the floorpan, totaling 64.7 kWh and allowing for a range of up to 440 km (WLTP). The new electric SAV comes standard with the Flexible Fast Charger as well as a Mode 3 charging cable – for AC charging at up to 11 kW or HPC fast-charging at up to 130 kW, which can charge the vehicle from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes, whether charged via Wallboxes or at public charging points and high-power charging (HPC) stations.
The suspension is based on BMW X1 technology and also comes standard with Adaptive M Suspension, which automatically adapts to road conditions and driving styles for greater ride comfort and long-distance performance. When driving in a sporty manner, the damping stiffens, making it feel safer and planted despite increased vehicle body movements. This increases driving precision and stability, especially while cornering at high speeds.
