The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has declared that the minimum age requirement for taxis and e-hailing vehicles has been raised to 15 from the previous 10 years.
As of January 1, all vehicles in the taxi and e-hailing classes across the country that have completed their maximum service life of 10 years will be subject to this, according to Apad.
This initiative was part of the transport ministry’s aim of aiding the taxi and e-hailing industry while improving the national transportation system.
In a statement today, Apad said that all of these vehicles must meet Puspakom’s periodical vehicle inspection standards while its operators must abide by the operational conditions to ensure passengers’ safety.
“Apad hopes that taxi and e-hailing industry players would improve the quality of their services following the extension,” it said, adding that the extension is effective immediately.
