Volkswagen Malaysia has released a new addition to the GTI family and this one comes with IQ. Drive, which is an innovative Driver Assistance System (DAS) consisting of various driver aid systems.
This is currently the only Golf model available for sale after Volkswagen Malaysia announced the discontinuation of the standard Golf TSI model.
Exterior
The new Golf GTI sports a distinctive honeycomb front grille and red GTI accents and offers complete LED headlights and taillights, 18″ Richmond alloy wheels and red brake calipers.
Completing the look are a pair of fog lights and electrically heated and adjustable folding mirrors.
Five colors are available: Kings Red and Atlantic Blue in metallic finishing; Moonstone Grey for a non-metallic option; as well as Deep Black and Oryx White with pearl effect at no additional charges.
Safety
The Volkswagen Golf GTI IQ. Drive features Travel Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) which uses radar and various sensors to detect vehicles ahead enhancing the safety aspects of the car.
Also included are Side Assist which acts as an active blind spot monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which warns drivers of potential danger when the reverse gear is engaged.
The Golf GTI also comes with Front Assist which is an Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) feature that uses a radar sensor integrated into the front of the vehicle to continuously monitor the distance to the vehicles ahead.
In addition to detecting vehicles, the latest version of Front Assist also detects pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road.
There’s also a new Lane Assist function that keeps the car in its lane using cameras. And in addition to that, there is also an Adaptive Lane Guidance function that also assists to keep the car in its lane, this is an adaptive function that learns from the driver’s driving characteristics.
Interior
The new GTI gets a new-generation 10.25” Digital Cockpit with multiple color themes and views, including a GTI-specific skin, as well as a multifunction steering wheel with haptic-touch control and heating.
An advanced 10” Discover Media infotainment system sits at the center of the dashboard, offering 3D inbuilt navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and seven speakers.
Power
The new GTI is powered by the same 2.0 litre TSI turbocharged inline-four petrol engine as before and produces 245 PS from 5,000 rpm to 6,200 rpm and 370 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 4,300 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Convenience
Decent room for the family inside as what we had demonstrated before with the Golf GTI Mk 8, and its 374-litre of luggage compartment is unchanged. Another smart feature of the vehicle is that it gives quick entry access by automatically unlocking the doors when the vehicle key is within the detection zone.
The Golf GTI also comes with Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator to warn when there is a loss of tire pressure.
The new Golf GTI is priced at RM244,990 and comes with three years of free maintenance, five years of unlimited mileage warranty, and five years of roadside assistance.
