Drinking and driving is a serious offence as you are putting your life as well as other road users life on the line. The limit is 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. A 30-year-old man was charged for drinking and driving as he had gone way over the limit at 167mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood but pleaded not guilty.
The accused, Jazvinjit Singh, on March 17, drove in front of the Police Air Wing Unit Training Base guard post off Jalan Angsana while intoxicated at 12:10am. According to the report, he had hit a guardrail nearby the base.
When two junior police officers were investigating the scene, Jazvinjit hit the both of them. He was charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a jail term of not more than two years, and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction, if found guilty.
The court set the bail to RM7,000 and set April 3 for mention.
