The Proton X70 After 4 Years

With the launch of the Proton X70 at the end of 2018, not only did Proton have a totally new model for its range but it was also the start of a turnaround and ascent for the carmaker which continues to this day.

Besides being the first model developed in collaboration with Geely, DRB-HICOM’s partner in Proton, the X70 was also first premium SUV model from Malaysian carmaker.
More than 10,000 bookings were received even before the X70 reached showrooms around the country.
Proton began assembling the SUV model towards the end of 2019 at its upgraded factory with a RM1.2 billion plant extension in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
Up till the end of November 2022 – 4 years after being launched – 82,869 units have been sold, making it the best-selling C-segment SUV in Malaysia.
Brunei was the first export market for the X70 where it was launched in July 2019. Up to the end of November this year, total export sales stand at 2,919 units and the X70 is now exported to 7 countries. Besides Brunei, the other countries are Nepal, Egypt, Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan, and South Africa. Besides Malaysia, the X70 is also locally assembled in Karachi, Pakistan.
With its intelligent voice command system, the X70 was the first ‘talking car’ in Proton’s range. By starting off ‘Hi, Proton’, followed by a natural language command, the system can operate the power windows, air conditioning, navigation, music, and weather apps.
In June this year, the X70 received styling updates as well as an additional powertrain – the 1.5-litre TGDi engine which is produced in Malaysia.
